Title: Walsall v Swindon Town pre match chat and match day thread.
Post by: Legends-Lounge on Sunday, May 1, 2022, 08:09:39
And so to the final day of the season which finally sees us in the play off mix. I’m going for a 1-3 win to Swindon with errr 3,500 away fans. McKirdy brace with a solo from Barry. Harder to predict Warsaw home attendance so I’ll go with 2789 Black Country pork scratching munchers.

Who would you have in goal for this one? Rest of the side kinda picks itself.

Jo Jo all day long.

I think Ward was at Fault for both FGR's goal and Barrow's.

Wollacott if fit, having the extra experience and leadership of Baudry at the back should hopefully allow him to return to hit form. Ward’s kicking is too erratic for me and you just know it’s going to cost us a goal sooner rather than later and ultimately he should have done better with both the goals he’s conceded in the last 2 games.

You can’t moan about the allocation, it’s two full stands, the other 2 stands have never been used for away fans and so have no segregation arrangements.

They have their own fans as well with season tickets and don’t imagine they’d take kindly to being shifted.

Where have I moaned? I only said that I was surprised they hadn't offered a few hundred more tickets because of high demand and based on their own sales wouldn't be anything special and they could take advantage of some extra cash. I appreciate that it's too late now and that it would have caused logistical issues but it was hardly a moan😀

They've already given us a thousand or more home seats and ST holders have had to be moved.   I've no idea if they could give more, logistically, but a third of the stadium seems pretty generous to me.

Reckon there will be plenty of spares going right up to kick off.
Can’t see everyone with a ticket going, equally some would have been purchased on behalf of others and will no longer be able to go.

Due to the short distance I would risk travelling and ask around outside the ground.
Otherwise do you know anyone living around the West Midlands that could buy a home ticket.

Fingers crossed, everyone on here gets sorted.

That's my thinking Dukey. Any match there are always scenarios where people can't make it and others have spares. Will see up to Tues/Weds and if nothing has cropped up then will look at alternatives. A few of us working together to try and get a ticket for all of us so that'll be a nice rosy (or Town red) feeling if we manage to do that  :-[

Saddlers form @ home so far.

W10 D5 L7

Thinking positively 12 teams have had a favourable result of those 12, 7 have won. 10 teams have not had a favourable day at the Bescot.

We’ve won there once 1-2 in the cup and thumped them 5-0 at SN1

Bookies odds

Walsall 14/5 draw 27/10 Swindon 20/23

Just noticed that Franchise have only given Wycum 2000 tickets for their PO game - despite having a capacity of 7000 for away fans.

So if we want to do likewise, I say we should.

Is the problem not that the rules will be the same as for league games where we need to offer 10% or 2000 but xx% need to be covered? This means we are forced to give a bit of the Arkell’s and the bank as neither meet requirements on their own. Could really do with finding a way to get 1450 away fans in the Arkell’s and that would allow us to have the bank.

That said if Port Vale, Mansfield or Northampton neither will sell enough to need the Bank anyway.

Well I don’t give a fuck who wins, I do give a fuck as to how much we get from Twines sell on clause when a PL team come knocking. So if the a positive of negative outcome is best for us then that’s what I hope for IMHO of course.

It’s EFL and therefore I would think the league rules will apply so we will need to provide a number of covered seats, I can’t see why the play-offs would have different rules. Only way round a team getting both sections is to find away of getting 10% of the capacity for away fans in the Arkell’s. I’m sure with some messing about with the buffer zone it could be done.

I think you're right with a little juggling around we could give another 200 seats in the Arkells to away fans but I'm not sure the police would want say 1400 Bristol Rovers fans next to Town fans on the bank unless they blanked a few of the end rows off and opened up the shrivenham road entrance which I have no idea if that is possible.

Apart from the small away stand plonked on the pokey covered terrace & blocking the view. :)
Hopefully it's another 50 years before the next generation of Town fans visit Holker Street.

Was there some seating in there, we were late in and in the pissing rain were concentrating on getting along the front and into the stand at the far end ASAP?

Barrow gave 130 covered seats. The Vegans had to build that bizarre stand at the end of the away terrace to comply with the regulations.

Worst case if we have to give someone the bank we should erect some temporary piece of sheeting covering a 100 or so seats to get around the rule and give home fans all of the Arkell’s.

Yeah, 130 capacity. I guess that they had to provide some covered seats to comply with EFL regs.
I was stood at the back of the terrace next to it.
If there is a next time (hopefully there won't be) and it's not raining then the open terrace to the side would be the better option.

Edit: Beaten to it by Theakston.

If we're trying to keep every seat but have to give a very small amount of 'covered' then just give them the front of the arkells bit and make them access it through the SB turnstiles. The main seats behind can be kept for home fans and accessed through the usual way.

I'm sure the police would rule it out if it was Rovers but shouldn't be much of an issue for anyone else.

It looks like this. I started off in the terrace part to the left of the seats but the view was awful and eventually moved round by the corner flag and ended up getting soaked.

If its any consolation we were much nearer the middle (IIRC in the block next to the home supporters) and the view from there was dreadful (couldn't see the entire goal and no chance with the far corner flag area)

I'm glad to see the covered is in inverted commas. Those seats might avoid the rain if there's a strong wind blowing North to South but at any other time it's like sharing an umbrella with someone that's a foot taller then you and weighs about 25 stone.

I suspect it's possibly not that straight forward. They've already moved some of their own season ticket holders already, I'd say they've been pretty flexible already.

I agree, I think if they thought they could cash in with more without restrictions then they would but not at the expense of upsetting their own fans, I think they have behaved perfectly with allocations.

Posts like this are a bit pathetic! Clubs have a duty to their own supporters as well, they are expecting 5k home fans so why would they risk pissing of their own fans off to sell a couple of hundred more tickets to us?  3.6k is a generous allocation and they didn’t need to give us that much, most other teams wouldn’t have! If people were turfed out of the Arkell’s, DRS, or the Town End under similar circumstances it would all be kicking off!

Up until today they had sold 2 seats on the side next to the away end and now it’s like 10 upto half way.  They average around 5000 in an 11300 stadium.  We have seen the difference between well run and tinpot so I stand by my comments.  It’s a dead rubber for them and free money in the coffers.  I’d suggest you check out the seat map if you wish to be a little more informed

I expect it would cost more for Walsall to reconfigure the concourse than it would in ticket income for that to be a realistic option.

The stand your refer to has always been a home stand and is the stand that contains their hospitality so they aren’t going to reconfigure it and put Town fans there and as Chang says probably would require new segregation. It would be like putting away fans all around the Arkell’s exec area, it just wouldn’t happen. There are 4 days until Saturday and maybe they would like the opportunity to sell seats to their own fans. This isn’t all about STFC! 3.6k is above and beyond already.

Walsall will certainly not be a push over and any fan going EXPECTING it to be easy will be disappointed, they have had some good results lately.

They have beaten Sutton and Port Vale at home in the last month and they sit above Swindon in the Home league table with 10 wins and 5 draws from the previous 22 games.

Scruffy Murphy’s is a five/ten minute walk from New Street. It’s my favourite town centre pub as I used to work there but it’s very, very alternative. Rock and metal bar. If that’s your bag you’d love it. If not… you won’t

Any recommendations for drinking in Brum near Nee Street?

If you're into your real ale, then the Post Office Vaults will cover all your needs.

Thank you! Was a horrible feeling at the time after being there for 5 1/2 years but like most things was a blessing in disguise and much happier in my new job, plus no more doing earlies and running to the CG on home Saturdays anymore!! Excited for some away days now too!

Fair play to you.
Best decision I ever made and it gave me back my weekends. However my wife now calls herself a football widow. Can't win them all.

This week is dragging.

So much so that I trawled through the Transfer Rumours thread before the season started. Remember we were all of a tizzy when some player from Feyenoord was supposedly signing - Liam Kelly. Signed for Rochdale.

A regular poster was bemoaning the signing of Jack Payne - overpaid and too small!

If Driving take the M6 Southbound then come off at Junction 7. Go left and turn down Walstead Road. Will take you by the ground from the other side.

Did that many years ago when we played Walsall the Saturday before Christmas; was able to sit in their club (at that time it was open) and watch the traffic at a standstill on the M6.

M40, M6 onto the A34 through Shirley way. Probably a known way for the locals so will be traffic chaos aswell.

M5 northbound is going to be a mare, the M6 not so bad as northbound traffic has the option to use the M6 toll which would bypass all problems. M42 big loop might be an option.

I’d love to know the reason we’re not allowed to screen it, because it seems bonkers to give fans an incentive to travel, when there are no tickets available on the day.

Given the M6 closure, my plan is to drive up the M5 and park one stop down the trainline at Tame Bridge Parkway, avoiding the m5 and only a few minutes on the train to the Bescot. For anyone with local knowledge, sound sensible?

Their goal difference is 5 worse than Northampton. So if both them and Northampton win - Northampton would finish 3rd on GD.

So I imagine Rovers will be told to go in for the kill, as the amount of goals they score Saturday could decide their fate.

I mean if they do go gung go for it and get a goal within say the first 10 minutes I can see them racking up the goals.

Maybe some of it is arrogance but playing the worst team in the football league (who I believe last game played a lot of kids) + potentially needing 5+ goals for automatic promotion - I’d definitely be expecting my team to go all out.

So if there ever was a day when they could set a new record for biggest win - it probably would be Saturday.

M5 J1 then through West Brom to Walsall sounds logical mate to skip the m6... tbh though if youre going as far as Tame Bridge Parkway (depending on how early you are) you may as well drive literally a mile further up and park on the street next to the ground. hth

it's the legality rather than the technical side.

if they got permission from ifollow (and whoever) to do it that way it's a 10 minute job to do 1 screen

also  surprised Vale and Northampton can do it, yet we can't

Per the statement, it isn't: the league were happy to greenlight it but the cost/technical side of doing it in the LL was too much on short notice.

Don't want to lambast the club at all, but seems like we left it a bit too last minute to reasonably organise.

I wonder whether its just a case of leaving planning it too late. I note that Port Vale were advertising it on Tuesday, whilst the Northampton one seems to be a big screen in the ground rather than just in their equivalent of the LL https://www.ntfc.co.uk/news/2022/may/beamback_faq/ ?

Edit - beaten to this by post above.

It sounds like the club missed a bit of a trick here with the beamback given that Northampton and Port Vale have managed it. Northampton have sold £140,000 worth of tickets and with 1,400 people buying food, drink and merch are surely going to be able to make a profit. Obviously Swindon can't offer the same number of people in the LL, but with a bit of forward thinking could have maybe done something in the Cricket Club or even the car park.

Anyway, moot point really as we haven't.

That would make it far too useful and not a waste of money.

or maybe Odimayo LB Egbo RB?

Same team as Barrow but Iandolo back in at left back, Odimayo is solid and never lets us down but the system is much more fluid with a natural left footer in that position.

I’d keep the same team as Saturday.

Thought Ward should have done better for the goal and JoJo is a better keeper but assuming him dropping out the side has more too it than that…

Talk about arrogant, Rovers fans on their forum, many are suggesting their record win of 7-0, 8-0 or more against already relegated Scunthorpe tomorrow.

Fucking hell I hope it comes back to bite their arses tomorrow. Even with how bad Scunny are thats typical Bristol arrogance for you.

Agree - other oldies May remember we also obtained our only away win in a relegation season 1974/74 by winning at Hull in our final away game. Come on Scunthorpe!

I reckon Egbo instead of with Odimayo coming on at 60 mins when Egbo runs out of legs as always seems to happen. Wollacott should come back in as it can’t be contract related as half the team wouldn’t be playing if that was the case.

Slept like a log last night, I guess the 5.20am alarms now I'm back commuting to London during the week probably helped but fully refreshed for today. Sun is shining and I'm hopeful of a glorious day ahead. Let's hope for a repeat of the FA Cup second round. I'll be getting into Birmingham around midday, hopefully might bump into wobbly Bob for some prose.

This seems to be going quite well based on recent resukts, so I'm going to predict a disappointing outcome with the pressure too much for our inexperienced side. 2-0 defeat.

I’m betting that the M5/M6 stretch from way before the West Bromwich J1 M5 will be chockablock. So LL Knight of the road that I am amongst other things has decided to circumnavigate the black hole of Birmingham and come off at M5 J4a round past the NEC & Birmingham Airport section. Take a left turn onto M6 N and come off onto A34 at J7 M6 then as WM plod have suggested turn left onto A4148 (W) to Walsall. It be longer but knowing the ‘normal route’ like do and have done like others for decades and especially with Albion being at home with a 12.30 KO it will be a nightmare. Only takes a small shunt from M5 J2 or 3 N bound to cause chaos.

Hope everyone keeps to their pre match rituals today. When we used to drink in the old British Railways club we always had to hop across the road at the traffic lights on Shrivenham Road.

Not as easy as it sounds either, seeing we were all beered up after starting at The Crown in Stratton at midday.

Pre match grappling with the possible ale permutations in The Briar Rose. It remains to be seen if the Arkells Kingsdown guest ale will be in contention.
Will move on to The Wellington once it opens. Great pub.

Well, bloody hell, here we are. What a journey it's been.
Season started with a joyous occasion at Scunthorpe, hopefully a similar feeling to conclude.

Would dearly love another 3 games after today.
We've yet to win 4 league games on the trot.
The typical Swindon line of most resistance would be to lose but still make it through.

Do small transistor radios still exist.
Or will it be mobiles with FM radio apps glued to ears today.
I'll just rely on the bouts of random cheering to know that events are unfolding elsewhere.

I'm guessing that the last time we had over 3,000 away fans was for one of the visits to Coventry. The KMac game?
A similar outcome today would result in some brown pants in the away end that's for sure.

Enjoyed every minute of the travels this season.
Met some good people along the way.
From the cancelled trains out of Scunthorpe (why always there), the extended fueling sessions before Tuesday night games with Exeter a favourite.
The mayhem at Bradford was the best, complete with face plant on the steps before the 2nd half.
The nothing performance at Tranmere was the worst & a low point.
Player of the (away) season. McKirdy, mercurial at times, some clever finishing, always moaning, but it's the work rate and running for the team that stands out.
Stick around for a few seasons Harry, club legend status awaits.

Creaking at the seams & looking forward to some rest & recovery over the summer, but not until the start of June.
The journey isn't over I suspect.

I have a feeling Jojo will be back and I am sure he will bring Dolo back at LB which is a bit unfair on AK who had a good game last week there.

                          Wollacott
Egbo            Conroy      Baudry       Iandolo
       Payne           Reed       Williams

Thats how I feel we will line up.

I'm in this boat too wobbly, win, lose or draw today I think given the challenges pre-season to be on the cusp of glory, or even a shot at glory has to be applauded.

I'm sure the players are going to give their all today, we'll be doing the same and come 5pm let's hope our season is still very much alive.

To add some fuel to the fire here and give everyone a nice warm feeling inside ahead of the game - one of the snippets I got this week at the awards do was that they did the new kit photoshoot this week and used models for the kits that they expect to be here next season..

There's a bit of ego about Clem isn't there! All fun whilst he's popular but not sure the chairman modelling kit would meet with anything other than derision if it were Dale Vince or Paul Scally.

Mind you, he can get Zav Austin to model the socks in his pink undercrackers if he delivers half the stuff he's talked about!

There is no doubt Jojo is the better keeper but Ward has done ok in his absence, he was at fault really for both goals conceded in the last 2 games and his kicking is very suspect, but he commands his area better than Jojo.

I am sure if Jojo is fit he will start.

Could get ugly.  This plays in our favour, btw.  Whichever of Rovers or Cobblers that misses out will be gutted going in to the POs.

Don’t think Rovers could complain if they end up in the playoffs. They’ve done their bit.

Yeah but the whole EFL fanbase wouldn't begrudge us from fucking up the Franchise Championship bid.

…let’s add some context.
They needed to score 7 and go for it.
They were playing the worst team in the football league.
The opposition have put the kids out the last few games.

They put out the kids out against Hartlepool but there was nothing on the game so maybe Northampton do have a case.

Teams with nothing to play for have been putting out the kids on the last game of the season for years.
Not worth investigating, if we were in that position we’d be delighted. Just because it’s Rovers people don’t like it.

First and most important - Get in Town!
2nd - Rovers, wankers. Not only did Scunny play kids; the 14 min pitch invasion delay meant that they had the luxury of knowing exactly what they needed to do to go up. Which would def have been an advantage

The fact they have scored 7 before the pitch invasion suggests they probably knew what they needed before that.

Yeah they did. Diff is without the pitch invasion they wouldnt have known 7 was enough in the last 15 mins, bcs Northampton coudl have scored last minute. So theyd prob have pushed hard for 8, and might have conceded doing so? Unlikely I know coz Scunny are total shite, but the principle is there

well, if ever there was a way to calm the nerves, scoring inside 3 minutes isn't a bad way.

First half wasn't all us. But we had much more quality in attack. 2-0 probably ok, 3-0 game over

second half they were slightly better than us, sort of. it was just a case of being precessional and not screwing up.. job done

now onto the playoffs and there is a great chance. Preston and Millwall had our number in the season. But no such team this year.

In truth it's wide open. Anyone can beat everyone.

That was a good day out - excellent first half from Town and a 3-0 lead which could have been more gave us the luxury of playing out the second half without over extending ourselves.
Walsall had few clear chances - Ward’s best save came when the attacher was offside.
Comfortable win really.
One complaint - why do idiots throw flares/smoke bombs during the game? Unnecessary.
Now for the play offs - I’m glad we can’t play Bristol Rovers - as the smoke bombs indicate, we have enough idiots of our own - combine it with theirs , plus the usual trouble makers joining in and it would be a very unpleasant occasion.

That's clearly not what he's saying. You are aware fans can make noise and support without throwing things about?

There were smoke canisters thrown from both sets of fans and bizarrely what looked like bibles or something were given to the referee twice by the lino in front of the town fans.

On that note, thought the local police and stewards handled things very well yesterday, they set the line pretty high and nobody crossed it. The only 'trouble' I saw were Walsall and town fans shouting abuse at each other across the platform at the Bescot stadium station which killed the 20 minute waiting time as it was entertaining. I think had a more heavy handed approach been adopted the day could have kicked off massively. Credit where its due.

Thought it was interesting that iFollow zoomed in on the faces of fans holding red smoke cannisters. Hopefully if there are fines for the club then these individuals can be identified.

The bit that concerned me (and I think Mr McKirdy) was that the great unwashed hugging and slobbering over the players put them at risk of catching Covid, when there are still up to 3 important games to go.

I was in 2 minds about the pitch invasion. Whilst it was pretty amazing given we are in embargo to have extended the season, we still haven't (yet) achieved anything.

The players and fans seemed to enjoy it, so that's the main thing (although I think there was a clip of Mckirdy looking confused saying we have 3 more games so maybe not all the players enjoyed it)

Potentially could be seen as a little tinpot.

Good call, Bob.

Whatever anyone thinks about pitch invasions or red gas canisters, yesterday was effectively the first of (hopefully) three knockout ties to secure promotion.  I personally partook in neither and would have chosen for others not to - notwithstanding the spectacle and emotion.

For me our vocal support was awesome and also sufficient.

I wouldn't be too judgmental on the invasion though - letting your hair down on what was a big day isn't such a crime.

What I would do is join you in applauding the judgement and good nature of the stewards and police.  I also thought the Walsall fans were decent.  Half the Ground full of triumphant away fans and a dicking must be hard to take.  Flynn may just have the ability to bring them a little more "success" next season.

From the Walsall forum, some very nice comments about us TBF.

Quote
How I wish we were anywhere near as good as Swindon
Men vs boys

I hate McKirdy, but i’d love him to be playing for us.

I said this to my mate who’s come today. Ridiculous. Payne, Williams and McKirdy are above this league.

Their first goal was taken well, the second we absolutely caved, invited them on with no resistance whatsoever, schoolboys could score given that much space.

They are so much better than us in almost every position on the pitch, how they’re only in 7th place is puzzling.

As for today sometimes you have to accept the opposition are better. Swindon along with FGR and Exeter are the best footballing team in this league.

The state Swindon were in and they managed to put a team together that made the play offs.

Fantastic crowd today, brilliant turnout by the Swindon fans who made a lot of noise. It’s a shame 5400 of us didn’t have anything to cheer for.

Rubbish end of season game, not a lot that hasn’t been said about this team all year really.

Mckirdy is right nob.

Anyway hopefully we can sign a few good players and be in Swindon’s position next season with a big away following enjoying a favourable result

Proper spanking in the 1st half, the 2nd better but ultimately a non-event apart from our miraculous inability to score.
Oceans of space for their goals and the penalty the same, complimented by a horribly misjudged industrial tackle.
Can’t see the Fail living with these over 2 legs.

I hope swindon turn up for the play offs tho and smash vale because they actually play some decent stuff.

Men against boys today.

Just shows it’s a complete myth that it takes years of squad building to challenge for promotion.

Despite us being crap Swindon again looked the best team in this league and should brush aside port vale.

Wish we had impressive forwards who could attack with pace etc like Swindon’s

Just another side that played decent football and I’m sat there thinking “we will never play like this”.
Not in awe or them being spectacular or anything, we would just never sign the players.

Kinsella wouldnt get in Swindons team ahead of Johnny Williams and the lad who scored twice forgot his name now good player though he’s the best of a bad bunch here.

Look at Swindon yesterday - they had Payne, Williams, and Reed interchanging positions, picking up the ball , running with the ball, getting into the box, whilst Reed set up everything. Everything we are not.

We have not a single player that could get in the Swindon side, let alone one of our midfielders getting into their side - or any other top 8/9 side.

My only criticism of the stewards was the few of them confiscating the beach balls. My 11 year old nephew had one practically removed out of his hands by an over zealous steward, completely unnecessary IMO.

From the Walsall forum, some very nice comments about us TBF.

That makes for good reading, especially the “attacking with pace” comment. We’ve done that well in recent games, replacing the ponderous tikitaka. I remember how effectively Vale countered that style at home with a high physical press - I really hope we’ve learnt how to play teams like them much better than we did back then.

Perhaps beachballs have become enemy number 1 after the Sunderland deflected goal against Pepe Rene when a beachball hadn't been cleared from the penalty area? Can't really think of another reason.

That’s her, the miserable Miss Trunchball. I politely asked her for it back as several kids were quite clearly enjoying themselves and doing no harm but she stone faced and refused. Another bloke tried to snatch it back but she was to quick for him and another steward tried to get his say in about health & safety etc. Fuck em, on a power trip while on minimum wage no doubt.

There was a guy in Birmingham city centre handing out bibles, there was a town fan who obviously took a few off him as he was offering them out on the way to the ground.

Yes a Bible was thrown on the pitch, a lad with us was given 3 in the Birmingham Centre (was behind the goal thus not thrown from him)..
Was a laugh moment with Lino stopping game and ref going over picking up the bible.
Ref was pissing himself laughing and said something to a few of the players that clearly made them laugh.

That was brilliant by McKirdy - We thought the only reason that wasn’t allowed was the ref made him take the throw from behind rather than in front of the Walsall player (referring to position of the goal line not the way the defender is facing).

I just remembered Egbo’s Ramona pass to McKirdy in the second half  - wonderful skill - (Harry volleyed high and wide).

I have never ever seen any player in L1 or L2 even attempt a Rabona pass, ever, some of the whole teams tocuhes at times on Saturday were sublime, loads of backheels and flicked passes without even needing to look up from Payne, Williams and Reed.

If we do gain promotion we NEED to keep Payne and get Egbo tied down to a long deal too.

Egbo has been a revelation particularly going forward.

I’d be intrigued to know whether we signed him as soon as we could get international clearance or whether he was just training here and we only signed him due to Injuries.

Probably not as good as KKH but a bit more direct and dangerous going forward in a kinda Fola Onibuje type of way.

Its no coincidence that our style of attacking has changed since he came in vs Harrogate.

He gives us a directness that KKH never did and has pace and power.

I loved KKH but his final ball was often really very poor and he was greedy, Egbo isnt'. Egbos final ball has been far more consistant and has several assists already, I also think hes a better defender than KKH is currently and is certainly stronger and more suited to L2 football.

I too think its weird that we didnt seem overly bothered about signing him until we had to due to injuries, but what a signing he has been.

It was fairly common knowledge he was training here and I think most of us were surprised we didn’t sign him in January.

I’m sure in one interview Garner was asked about Egbo and basically said he was training with us to keep himself sharp + it helps with numbers because we had a small squad. Ultimately we were helping to find his next destination…

Then after we signed him in another interview I swear Garner said we were waiting for international clearance because his previous club wasn’t in England.

Obviously both of those (if my memory of what Garner said is true) can’t be true as such

They way it was presented at the time, he wouldn't have a contract if Hunt hadn't got injured. Of course that may have been different in private as they were sorting international clearance.

The first filmed rabona was performed by Brazilian footballer Pelé in the São Paolo state championship in 1957. Giovanni "Cocò" Roccotelli is credited with popularising the rabona in Italy during the 1970s; at the time, this move was simply called a "crossed-kick" (incrociata, in Italian)

He started badly then got better and then went off the boil earlier in the season but has been their stand out player since Christmas apparently according to their forum, he loved it under Johnnie Jackson so now hes been sacked maybe the new manager won't rate him and we can have him back!

My cousin is a Plymouth fan and he said he tore them a new one when they played in November.

Yep. And possibly Hal Robson-Kanu had to be the type to present a cheekily dinked Rabona at some point!

The way Jonny Williams was blindly backheeling and laying off passes v Walsall, he might well have attempted one but alas, Egbo was the man!
