Just heard back from my Union (left a message with them when I got the letter) and basically been told to tell them to fuck off, it's not been agreed with the Union (as the manager told me it was) and isn't part of any national framework that's been discussed with the Union.

I remember a girl at primary school who joined the queue to speak to the teacher, turns out she wanted to say she felt sick, then proceeded to vomit over his desk, the register and various other paperwork.  Cheesy

You could tell the manager you felt harassed by the letter when you were trying to recover. They are supposed to be big on harassment.

The thing that amazes me is it took only 2 days for a letter to be delivered. Was it posted before you were ill?

No more so than asking an ill member of staff to attend a meeting. Playing them at their own game I'd say. Use their own rules as a stick to beat them with.

If he actually felt harassed then maybe, if you're doing it to 'play a game' then you're being a twat.

I'd argue the manager has been the twat. It's not a situation that the employee has invited or done anything to instigate. Being lied to and treated that way should be dealt with as the company rules state. Using their own rules to your benefit is the complete opposite of being a twat in my opinion.

I suspect that if the manager is bullshitting staff in writing regarding this being agreed with the Unions etc the employers would probably want to know, otherwise the Union would sensibly keep it back for a rainy date when they actually are in dispute.

I am still in the go in and be sick on him camp though!

I've been on both sides.
I know full well it's not been agreed by the Union and none of the staff I've sent the letter to have ever attended the meeting. Infact I usually advise my staff to ignore all the official bollocks and just text me with a quick update.
They know it's purely a paper exercise to tick boxes.

Hardly harassment though is it?
