People who think just because the Mannington roundabout traffic lights are off, it means they can go onto it as soon as the car in front of them does even if I'm on the roundabout and about to take my exit. A roundabout without traffic lights turned on is just a normal roundabout fools.

Absolute nightmare trying to get out of West Swindon onto Mannington Roundabout this morning. I'm guessing the lights should've been on at rush hour but crapped out for some reason.

For me it was fine at 8:30 (but the lights were off), but nightmare same time yesterday (lights were on). Previously its been fine for me ever since the last roadworks. I'm also coming from Tewkesbury Drive direction

Who knows whether the system is working or whether they are buggering about with it. All they've said is that the system turns off when it detects there are insufficient cars queueing to warrant being on.

Day light running lights are compulsory on new cars built after a certain date are they not?

What I don't understand, is on my sister's new VW, if the lights are set to any position, other than side lights (off, dipped and auto) it's the same as dipped. The puzzlement though is that if they're in the sidelights position, the only lights on are the sidelights. It leaves me wondering what's the point of the sidelights, because the car ensures even when the lights are switched to off, they're all on? (I'm not sure I've made sense there.)

I'm struggling with this.

Swindon's road network is hopelessly under-capacity in places...Mannington/Wootton Bassett Road being one of them.

(Now there's a thought.  Should it not now be Royal Wootton Bassett Road?  Very grand sounding name for a road that's not really up to the job any more.)

I think I have mellow a bit as I get older and try to be a bit more tolerant of the fuckwits on the road. People make mistakes and I've always been quick to beep or flash or make hand gestures. Now I think that if they make a mistake and acknowledge that they have or if they are in the wrong lane but show their intent by indicating I'm happy to let it pass.

However if they are just driving like a cunt to get ahead of a few cars then the red mist descends.  Down here we have a local authority and police initiative which allows you report bad and unsocial driving and the person gets a stern letter from the rozzers and you get your car highlighted on their database in case of future transgressions or if you get stopped.  Not exactly the strictest punishment but it made me think twice after I had a letter for tailgating some dopey cow that pulled out dangerously in front of me

I dont live there anymore, but when I did, all the lights along thamesdown drive used to drive me spare...if there was any syncing going on at all, I would swear they were synced to go red as soon as you arrived there from the previous red.....if you know what I mean.

Yes they are, or will soon be compulsory.

Are you sure the side lights are not parking lights? Mind you, you'd think they'd turn back to dipped if the car was running and moving.

Not being able to make the Wimbledon game on Saturday, compounded by news that one of the nearby pubs (The Blue Bar at The Peel) is where folk shall be supping on their pre-match pints.

No, it's bizarre. Every setting is the lights being set to dipped, except sidelights, which is just sidelights. See, I'd have thought just the sidelights would be good enough for DRL, instead of dipped, therefore off, auto and sidelights would be sidelights (as DRL). I'm convinced the settings are mixed up.

This brings me to my moment of genius that I feel I must inflict upon the council's budget. Speed bumps on roundabouts. Hear me out.

If the speed people drove around roundabouts was low, then you'd get more traffic on and off and the flow would be steady. You'd also have less twats who approach from the right at a high speed "because the left should give way".

They're hateful and annoy me so much I now just treat red as a give way and jump them. I think most of the lights just cycle with no reason for going red.
