Pah! You can write 500 words in half an hour.... I think. Proper essays begin at 3000 words, anything below is basically note-making.
If the essay is titled " reasons for hating the pox " then I fear 3000 words is merely note-making  |

1350, it's usually + or - 10%
If it's a paper hand in only, you can do less and just say it's more, they won't count as long as it's not really obvious.
