Absolutely, in many ways I feel a lot safer driving in the middle/right lanes at 80 ish than trying to drive in amongst the trucks at 60-70ish in the left hand lane.
If you're talking about dangerous driving, trucks driving up each others arses and pulling out into the middle lane without any consideration for cars already there (and no, just because you are signalling it doesn't mean its OK to move over whether there is anything there or not) is much more dangerous than a modern car with a competent driver driving at 80-90.

I think the biggest problem with those that speed is down to the fact they're such shit drivers they don't even know they're speeding - as evidenced by the number of cars with no lights on.

I've never understood how anyone could ever drive further than the end of their drive without looking at the dash and realising they can't see their speedo. (When dark/dusk.)
That was the case in older cars but most cars built probably in the last 5 or 6 years have dashboard illumination all the time not just when you turn your lights on.

My dash lights actually dim when you turn the headlights on.

On the subject of motorway speeds, I used to be one of those outside lane 90 MPH people. I'm now much happier (and so is my wallet) to set the cruise control to 70 and pootle along in the inside lane.

That's a bit shit. How the fuck are you supposed to know when your lights are on/off other than looking at the switch?

If your dashboard is always ablaze, then the only way is the switch Shirley? Unless of course you have a light on the dash signifying the lights being on, like fogs or main beam I suppose.

Please explain. I feel like I've inadvertently been possessed by pericarp and I'm missing a vital clue somewhere. Huh?

Smiley not at all my comment was based purely upon your usage of the word Shirley which I continued, nothing missed and no Pericarp moment meant.

And by the use of the word dashboard rather than Instrument Binnacle is because on my car the dashboard has several additions such as trip computer screen/sat nav/radio built into the dash area to the left of the actual dials, hence my use of the word dashboard.

I've a light on the dash that indicates when the headlights are on.

All cars should have lights on by default.

All new cars do now (DRLs).
