Had 6 new doors put in upstairs so they needed 2 coats each plus the frames. Slow and tedious job. How anyone could do that for a living day after day is beyond me

It's not so bad. Sure it can get monotonous at times, but 95% of the time you're left to your own devices. A radio and a kettle and it's happy days. In a lot of ways I'd say it's the same as being a lorry driver, for instance.

Don't forget also that getting paid to do something makes the world of difference. I moved into my house last December that had been completely gutted and redone. I still haven't finished the decorating.

Dad's been a Painter all his working life (although was a school caretaker in the middle as well, keeping up both jobs).  Decided to give up on pushing for a contract at STFC as a youth and ended-up working for Arnold D'Arcy.  Kevin Morris used to give him a lift to training.

Gloss painting. My word it's just the worst job around the home.  Angry
Stinks, takes an eternity to dry, is a bastard to get off anything. I hate it

Note to all. If you use a solvented paint you can speed up the drying process by putting in terebine or driers as they are known.

If they're new doors, why on earth would you choose to paint them with gloss?!

Possibily because they are primed only?

Then use satin or eggshell instead.

Doors are primed and only on the front/back so need painting after cutting to size.
Gloss gives the best finish, was recommended by the chippy and matches the frames/skirting. Eggshell is not suitable and satinwood is still a gloss type paint. It's a job that had to be done. If I could have avoided it, I would have. Other options would have been different doors but it all matches and looks good now it's done.

Undercoat first. I agree in as much as that gloss is sooooo last year. Except for the Asian community, they still have a penchant for shiny finishes.

Turned on my VPN and it said you are connected to a whitelisted network. Wtf does that mean?

Only started coming up with that recently.

Tilting of the pint glass before the mouth is ready to receive.
Then hoping that the resulting attempt at clean up doesn't look as if I've pissed myself.

Occupational hazard.

Some VPN software operate a white/black list of networks. White = VPN doesn't automatically connect, black = automatically switches on the VPN.

Useful to whitelist your home wifi network, but blacklist things like public wifi and mobile data connections.
