I am prepared to give the NHS the benefit of the doubt on such matters they tend not to just stand by and watch kids suffer!
Oh, yes I agree, I don't imagine for one minute that the doctors are just sat there going "fuck 'em". But equally don't see the harm (unless the treatment itself or travelling to it would cause additional unnecessary suffering). There's a fine line between preventing further harm vs being overbearing

I think you've answered your own question. I think I read in an article about another case that doctors felt it was not in the kid's best interests to needlessly prolong their suffering. The parents might feel that they should make that decision, but I'm not so sure.

The way people behave when you’re selling a car.

So one person was really keen, so keen I thought he was going to pay my asking price. He needed to phone his bank and ensure he could get the cash. He doe this outside while I’m inside. He’s outside for 10 minutes and then fucks off. And then doesn’t answer his phone.

Another turned up and spent 15 minutes taking the car to pieces and practically verbally abusing me over the price, the condition and how he could get better for less. Clearly he was trying to hope I’d give it away after trying to point out it was worthless.

Another literally turned up, ragged the shit out it, and left.

There were numerous others, nearly all utter cunts.

Then you have the messages. I had one tell me it was only worth £4K by message (50% of my asking price) and I was asking too much. Another who sent a list of problems he’d spotted from the photos and then offfered me £6k and said he’d need to see it before he would consider paying that.

I had another who asked why I kept dropping the price. I responded saying because I can’t sell it and need to. He said there’s obviously problems with it and I’m not being honest.

People are fucking rude as well. If it’s not bad enough that millennial cunts don’t even understand manners, it seems the majority of other also barely bother these days. Makes me feel old, miserable and the last bastion of manners.

That's just people in general when buying stuff. No shows, will you take half price, can you deliver that £2 item to Bassett, etc, etc.

There are still lots of people with manners, but gumtree/Facebook/autotrader brings out the worst .

I think that was what I meant by "a fine line between preventing further harm vs being overbearing".

This thread on Twitter provides an overview of the legal situation and what process has been followed, it is a bit snarky as its in response to some septic Christian talk show host who was suggesting it was all a government conspiracy...

https://twitter.com/BarristerSecret/status/989195011043528704

The fact that the Parents appear to be being advised legally by the Christian Legal Centre sets alarm bells ringing, and the fact that the courts seem to suggest that the legal advice being provided is not correct makes me fear their understandable grief is being exploited somewhat! This piece makes the point much more elegantly than myself https://inews.co.uk/opinion/comment/alfie-evans-parents-deserve-more-than-exploitative-platitudes/

Its a truly tragic matter and I cannot even imagine how the lads mum and dad are feeling or managing to deal with this, but its getting out of hand.

No different being a tradesman. Had an Asian woman ring me up a few months ago about a leak in the bathroom. She asked if I could come round and find where it is. After a bit of a conversation about the leak I told her my callout charge for the first hour and subsequent hourly rate. Trust me they’re not excessive. The phone went quiet and she then said it’s going to be an insurance claim. So I said fine and reiterated the charges. Quiet again. Clearly she thought I was going to go out spend what would be at least an hour probably more and find her leak for nothing and then get the insurance to cough up. At this point I had to mention to her that after identifying the leak the insurance co would likely ask her to use their approved plumber or should have already done so and who was going to pay me? Having dealt with Asians for years in a sales capacity they expect at best something for nothing, wholesale prices or try and beat you down because they have an uncle or cousin who would be cheaper. After arranging to go out the following day at an agreed time I waited for her to text me her address (apparently she was to busy to tell me personally.....) needless to say no text so someone else dealt with it i’m sure. Then there was the Irish bloke who rang me last Thursday on his way from Bristol to Swindon to a flat, apparently the carpet fitter has disturbed the kick space heater could I help, BTW I was given your number by the builders merchant, except I know he wasn’t. Again, another insurance situation which should fall to the mythical carpet fitter (who has carpet in the kitchen?) I did call him back a number of hours later (I was in the middle of something I couldn’t just drop) but he never picked up so I sent a text which he never acknowledged. I could offer more examples but you just know when someone is after something for nothing or trying to scam you, go with your gut feeling.

Can sympathise with you there. I have done a lot of gardening (not uphill, promise) and DIY work a few years back and between other jobs. I remember a potential client saying they were desperate for some work to be done. I told them my hourly rate and gave a quote for the works carried out. Bear in mind I had several repeat weekly/fortnightly clients already and they were all happy with work I'd done to date. The conversation happened face to face and they seemed unsure, so left my number and said no rush just get back to me when you've had a chat, etc (I knew they were going to try and negotiate and I was happy to drop my rate/quote if reasonable). They rang me back and said they would like me to carry out the work and I said ok that's fine, I can pop by in a day or two. Oh but we wondered if you could do it for £XX p/h? I can't remember exactly what it was but it was less than min/wage, may have been £5 or £6p/h. I had to politely decline and mention to them I could go and labour for a gang at £12 p/h (prob around £14/15p/h now) carrying pipes and doing groundworks. They didn't like it but their offer was frankly disrespectful. I can barter but when they go so low you know they won't even meet your lowest possible rate.

Everyone wants something for nothing but they'll soon be complaining when they've had to spend twice because some charlatan has messed everything up. If a price is too cheap, smell a rat (unless you know them) if it's too high find evidence or ask them what justifies the cost. Most middle ground rates/prices tend to achieve best. Higher rates work if you offer bespoke and custom services but most people just want a good to decent job dong.

Equally the rates for professional trades have been hammered by cheap continental labour over the last decade also. Not decrying the standard of work from anyone overseas but if you’re local labour rate is a few Zlotty, bottle vodka and a pickled beetroot then £50 an hour is like hitting the lottery. Still, I have a bog to unblock on Monday, it’s a shit job but someone’s got to do it. And five phone calls later they rang me because three never answered and two put the phone down on them...... Where there’s muck there’s brass by eck chuck.

£50 p/hr What exactly are you consulting on? I live in the north, we give a fair price and don't rip people off. However, it's kind of relative. My rate is more 10 Drachma, 2 bottles of Raki and a pot of Kleftiko. Not all continental labour is cheap. Britain just happens to be one of the highest tenders for projects in the world. Maybe we should look at that. the New Wembley and HS2 are fine examples of consistent overspends.

Haha, how can they wait that long to have their loo unblocked? I know all about that game, on a larger scale. We used to pump out septic tanks with no proper soakaway (isolated environment). They are lovely things. Just don't volunteer to undo the release valve  Puke

Maybe because the men’s has two stalsl to piss in as well! You are allowed to piss in them you know, not just sit down and have a roll up. I didn’t say I charged £50.00 PH, I just used it as an example. Trust me in this day and age £50.00 per hr is cheap for tradesmen, consultants don’t get out of bed for less than £500.00 per day.

PS. I am so glad you can confidently speak for the honesty of everyone in the righteous north.
