Yates isn't our player to lose, which is the downfall of both the loan market and enjoying a successful season (especially in the times of COVID-19).

Keshi was on the transfer list at the start of last season.
Yates played the previous season at Carlisle (?) and didn't exactly set the league alight. Some of them seemed quite amused that we were signing him.
Doyle was doing nothing at Bradford.

You can say the same about some (most) of those that are still with us.

We picked up players that appeared to be average, even poor, and turned them into champions. Wellens/Jewell know what to look for, and they know what to do with them.

There's no reason what we can't do similar this season, only this season we will be higher in the pecking order.

What the #wherehasmoneygonepowerout idiots on social media do not seem to be able to comprehend is that a club has to live within its‘ means, especially in the current economic climate. I am sure that (as has been said) better players will most probably come onto the market for the aforementioned reasons. I’d rather be a bit more patient than spunk the budget and regret later

it's always disappointing to lose out on a known quantity* to rival teams. I think that's fair enough.

but we've an unknown start date to a League under unknown conditions. I think most people can see that and realise it's impossible to go above what resources we can chuck at it.

*  maybe not in League 1

Completely agree with both Matchworn and Batch. Disappointing to lose out on Yates if indeed we have (just because Rotherham have accepted Blackpool's offer, doesn't mean he will - yes I am clutching at straws). But COVID isn't over yet and next season will be played out against a backdrop of massive financial uncertainty in a Football League which is already a complete basket case financially. The priority for any club for next season is to have a club at the end of it.

Nothing confirmed. BBC Wilts this morning stated we have made a formal offer to Rotherham.
I'd imagine Yates would much prefer a move to Swindon.

If indeed Yates does go then good luck to him, disappointed if he chooses them over us if we placed a similar bid but I don't blame Rotherham holding out for more.

Half decent player but not the finished article by any means, will probably struggle up due to the huge competition for attacking players with 9 vying for the attacking 3 spots already before he signs.

I have absolute faith in Wellens and Jewell bringing in at least comparable if not better players, keep the faith.

Really liked Jerry Yates but I don't think he's so good we should pay over the odds. He's unproven above League 2. I think we could easily get as good or better but that will obviously be decided by who we can replace these players with.

Wellens and Jewell have done enough for me to show we should have full confidence in their player recruitment.

EDIT: Just realised how similar my post is to the one above. Should have read through first!

Everyone seems to forget the Blackpool manager is a completely unknown quantity. We’ve seen first hand the clusterfuck that can happen when a youth coach with no playing experience tries his hand at management.  Imagine that will have some effect as well.

I love Jerry.

But there will be better players, for better value, at the back end of this window. Spending early always means spending more.

Still don't agree with you on this. Their frontline was pretty impotent last season (bar Gnanduillet who's left) and Yates will be going there with a realistic chance of being first choice striker. Shame to miss out on him but good luck to the lad. As Panda Paws says, there'll be decent players available for less in a month's time.

Can’t be true, but the fee is rumoured to be £500,000. Even half that would be pushing it.

In which case, I'm glad we didn't match it.
