Maybe the forthcoming 1.38m from the PL may help loosen the purse strings.

Personally, Id rather tuck it away in case of . . .

What I'm a little confused about, Doughty has gone no pay off etc, he was already budgeted for as he was under contract, and it was mentioned somewhere he was one of the higher earners, does his wages not become free for Wellens to get a replacement in, isn't this why the decision was made so early by Doughty so Wellens had time to get a replacement, and now seemingly he has no money to spend on wages.
I'm clutching wildly here, but I wonder if the global pandemic meaning the club is likely to have an income slightly adjacent to fuck all this season might have had an impact on previously made spending projections?

All budgetting was done on the logic we'd have fans by October. Everything is now fucked.

Again, if we're solvent and in L1 come May, that'll be amazing.

You also can't believe what Wellens says half the time with transfers and budgets. He has changed tune a lot, interview to interview across pre season.

Noble.

But would the Championship clubs have done the same?

The adver guy seems to believe that today wont be a quiet
As Wellens made up. Couple of late deals.

Good morning, everyone and welcome to Adver Sport's transfer deadline day live blog!

I will keep you updated with anything that happens at the County Ground today, as well as a selection of moves across League One.

And before you say: "nothing is going to happen, Wellens said we aren't signing anyone", I have reason to believe today may not be as quiet as first thought.

Stay tuned, and I will hope to bring you a couple of STFC deals before the day is out.

Players such as Tom Broadbent, Matty Palmer and Hallam Hope have been tipped as potential outgoings, but those deals would need to happen prior to lunchtime you would have thought if Wellens is to be given enough time to sort an incoming before 5pm

Wellens' loves to ruffle feathers. I love it. Best part is many will never "get it" and will take his bait all the time. Even several getting disgruntled at him on here. It's just his style, he keeps as much close as possible because he knows how the football world works. What he says in pressers - take with a very large pinch of salt. We know some of it may be true, just like we should also know that some of it may be false.

What he tells us really means diddly and whilst that might be uncomfortable for some, the bigger picture is plenty of clubs haven't as much of a clue of what Town are doing.

The only time he really drops his poker face is in the post match interview (and more so if we've played shite. The day I'll take his words as gospel is when he says he's leaving or is signing a new deal.

Fully expect him to have the extra midfielder he wants by 5pm. Right, I'm off to find a "secret beach" Pint

The potential of any incomings at the County Ground looks to be diminishing with every passing minute.

There was thought to be one player close to leaving the club after Wellens received a phone call from an EFL club manager on Wednesday, however, as things stand, there is no news to report.

I wouldn't rule anything out, but for now it looks set to be a fruitless deadline day for Swindon

Nixon reckons Palmer to Wigan is back on. Surely not without any incoming?
