I think that our very young reserve side went down 0-5 against Southampton Reserves tonight. Can't find any details of who played, scored, etc but the word was that Southampton were going to put a out a strong side so it's no surprise really!

I can certainly remember the horrible match at the dell when we lost 5 - 1. Just after losing 5 - 0 nil to liverpool on the sunday wasnt it?
I was in the Upper Tier of the Milton Road for that with a Soton fan from work - not a great day. later that season I went up to Villa with a Villa fan at work - 5-0. Since then work colleagues can fuck off when it comes to watching Town.

They had JPT Wembley t shirts and flags for sale. And people were wearing them.
Pubs had them up in their windows too.

Just saw the goal on the BBC site. At first it looked miles offside but after lots of trying to pause it at just the right time, it looks as though the run and the through ball were perfectly timed.
Not that I'd be too concerned if the lino had cocked it up!

I could see it was onside from back here in Swindon.
Never in doubt.

If you mean in regards to it being offside then it doesn't matter - deflections don't count, its who played the ball last. The way Austin went round the keeper is proper old skool, you never see players do it like that anymore.

Ferry's second booking looks even softer on the highlights, no wonder Sheehan responds the way he does to the player on the floor making a meal of it.

On the subject of who he reminds me of, in my mind there is one that Austin does remind me of.
A great goalscorer who hardly scored many headers or many long range efforts but was totally deadly in the box and good close control.
The great Ian Rush.

I thought that myself a couple of weeks ago, it's used to be part of the strikers art but seems to have disappeared from the game. Not sure why, but one possible reason is that a lot of strikers especially in the Prem tend to want to make contact with the keeper and take their chances getting a pen, e.g. AJ in the Fulham cup game, and tuck away the pen rather than try and slot from an acute angle.
Maybe Charlie has asked The Don for a few tips to take around the keeper.
