I don't often revel in the misfortune of others, but this chap's downfall was entirely of his own making. It's not even as if he couldn't afford the train fares. Guardian: Millionaire City executive who dodged £43,000 in train fares unmaskedYou play the system, fair enough. Just be prepared for the system to give you a big kick up the arse when it figures out what you've been up to. I'll bet he's not feeling quite as smart as he was 6 months ago.

Was in Achill Island over the weekend and watched the GAA 1/4 final between Mayo and Cork. Unreal match with 3 goals, a black card(!), the two coaches refusing to shake hands at the end of the game etc etc. I'm hooked!!

The changing seasons. It's always in early August that I start to notice the nights beginning to draw in; and in early February that I start to notice them lengthening again. And daylight aside, it's in August that you also start to see the very first signs that summer is on the wane. I usually notice the nights becoming cooler/more pleasant first, often around mid-August; daytime temperatures seem to hold up for longer. Or maybe I'm imagining that.

Silly thing, seeing two Swindon fans on the Sky Sports Football League promo. Must have been shot recently, they were in the "Imagine Cruising' top in front of the SB/Shrivvy mural.

Was that hurling or football? Used to love GAA Football when I was living in Kerry - fucking unbeatable for years they were - The Gooch was the main man. They do love nicknames in Ireland. There was always an edge when Kerry played Cork

I love the way that the seasons and nature relate to each other in a seemingly timeless pattern....although of course it isn't, nor has it ever been timeless, just operating on a different scale. At this time of year I always feel a tinge of sadness, that the swifts of Old Town will depart....this summer, there has been some reasonably sized screeching parties, which is good as I had the feeling numbers had decreased in recent years. The swifts always arrive about May 3rd, give or take a couple days, and always depart for North Africa about August 3rd, give or take a couple of days. There were a decent number about yesterday evening....I'd imagine they'll have gone today, or maybe tomorrow.
