You also have to realise that you will be putting your body under significantly more strain than usual by running in this heat...so easing up both on your race pace and even on the distance would be no bad thing (unless you're an all action super-hero). I had the misfortune to see an experienced athlete being attended to by paramedics immediately after completing the marathon this year, having collapsed through heat exhaustion. Tragically, he didn't make it.
Was that the middle aged chap in the London marathon? If so think it's not quite right to say that was down to heat exhaustion. Coronors report is still inconclusive at this stage and the chap had complained of not feeling too well in the lead up to the race. If not, excuse me for butting in.

Getting deliberately lost on the way back from an interview in Swindon today just so I could enjoy the Wiltshire scenery and the afterglow of a job well done a bit more (and also meaning I avoided the A303 in peak Friday evening rush hour traffic during the Summer Holidays, always a bonus).

You did well grasshopper....apparently the A303 was an absolute nightmare yesterday afternoon. Off to Yeovilton air show today, sitting in a pub all day in the sun watching the planes fly by and not having to pay entry fee as the pub is directly at the end of the runway

On the running subject, this guy Steve Way is quite inspiring. And very similar to me (up to a point - the point being the point that Im going to run a half marathon very slowly at the age of 43 whilst he is competing in the commonwealth games marathon but then again I am 3 years older than him) http://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/0/get-inspired/27994073

Fella I work with is 63 and he, and his son, have both been accepted for next years London Marathon.
He reckons he'll do around the 4 hour mark.

Congrats!! Is it a half Marathon you're doing?? If it's your first, and you can do ten miles now (in that heat) you'll have no worries.

Thanks. Yup half, yup first, and no not in the heat. This morning was pretty cool. I tried the heat Wednesday lunchtime and stopped after 7.33. Trying to do under 2hrs. Its Chippenham, so not too bad - I have run most of the route at lunchtimes from work. Its the last 3 or 4 miles that is just a gentle but energy sapping climb.
