I've stuck with the running so far. Getting up at 5.30 and running before work 3 times a week isn't as tortuous as I thought it would be. Still too early to say I enjoy it, but I feel great afterwards!

This weather has been fantastic for chilli growing. Really good harvest this year and some real hot ones. Could do a few more varieties this year as well which is a bonus.

A colleague of mine trying to think of the name of a movie..the description was..

'I don't know the name of it or the actor in it but, a blokes misses gets killed and he's some bloke who's a ninja type thing, seeking revenge by going round killing people with ninja moves..'

Ninja, it was called Ninja.

Nice one.

I'm going through a crisis of confidence right now. Just over a month to my half marathon and I could only manage 7.5 miles. I'm hoping it's the heat.

Judgement day tomorrow, 10 miles at best race pace

Without wanting to exaggerate, I think you really need to take full account of how much more difficult the weather we are having at the moment makes distance running.  In this heat, your body is far less able to cool down efficiently than when conditions are cooler.  Sweating is far less effective as a cooling mechanism, and your performance will suffer.

You also have to realise that you will be putting your body under significantly more strain than usual by running in this heat...so easing up both on your race pace and even on the distance would be no bad thing (unless you're an all action super-hero).  I had the misfortune to see an experienced athlete being attended to by paramedics immediately after completing the marathon this year, having collapsed through heat exhaustion.  Tragically, he didn't make it.

Not trying to alarm you, but I would keep some perspective on your training.  I also had a training run in the build up to the marathon where I quit 11 miles in to a 13 mile session.  Annoyed me intensely until the next weekend when I went and cracked it - so not the end of the world.  To be honest, your 7½ miles sounds like a good achievement.  Easy does it.

When out running in this weather it's about taking in liquid. As much as possible.

I lost 5kg in sweat doing 13 miles the other week. Like others have said, don't get too disheartened with the conditions, just factor them in to the reckoning. And think how easy it will be when it cools down!

5kg?! I know what you meant. Five pounds is a shit load to lose.

Thanks for the encouragement. I think I need a good solid run tomorrow morning and I'll be OK.  Assuming I can do it!
