Do you know what makes sprouts in bacon even better?
Removing the sprouts.
Stupid vegetable. Its up there with celery as a pointless food. At least celery has a football song about it. Nobody sang at football about sprouts.

But the sprout has a band named after it

I don't know if anyone's seen Nathan For You, but people will literally eat shit flavoured ice cream if it's free. And they're in Huddersfield.

Good old Paddy McAloon, great song writer - nearly went deaf and blind but carried on with the music regardless.

But I have to disallow it, they aren't real sprouts.

Oh, and When Love Breaks Down popped up on a crappy movie I was watching the other day - covered by Snow Patrol.

After being baffled by the sprout numbers yesterday i give you all fish fingersd - http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/2016/12/22/fish-fingers-back-menu-families-reject-sausages/

"contributing to 18 fish fingers being eaten every second across the UK. "

i had a fish finger sandwich today and it was lovely - but based on the above we are eating 1.5 million fish fingers a day mental numbers

I fucking love sprouts. Some of the curry houses up here have started using them in some dishes. It's a walking time bomb waiting to go off.

I've been doing a sprout and turkey vindaloo Boxing Day for years. Certainly good for blowing away the cobwebs.

I feel the need to intervene on the subject of sprouts. I've always liked them if they're not yellow and flaccid through over-boiling. Three pre-Christmas tips:

1 Don't cut crosses in the top - this lets water in and make them limp.
2 For greener, crunchier sprouts, steam instead of boiling them.
3 The bitterness is in the stem - cut it as close to the bulb as possible.

Someone recently taught me a delicious alternative for sprouts: halve them and cut out the stems completely, then parboil and fry in a pan with bacon cubes and a little chili pepper till they're slightly charred. Simple and superb.

If it helps you get past the gag reflex involved in admitting that, it was an American friend that taught me the recipe.
