Agreed, I think in this system a giant beast playing in Brewitt’s position would be massively exposed.
So get FBT to LB and aim to get one in there.
I was wondering how Dokes would do at RWB myself actually. Maybe we would push Dokes and FBT as our wing backs and get a whole new back line in . It’s a thought but think the marauding outside CBs are vital to our attacking player so would take edge off of that. Obviously we need to find a happy medium - as I mentioned I think a DM who can drop back into CB would be better. Perhaps, when fit one of Clayton / Brewitt as the middle CB and the one other in holding midfield role with the brief to drop into CB when Dokes & FBT push on

Won the first half 4-1 and lost the second half 4-1.
For all their hype they aren’t very good and, tbf, we’re probably a bit better than we thought.
Same thought I had yesterday TBH. These aren’t very good are they.
1 trick long ball pony. Conversely, we may be better than we think too.

Disappointing the Ref was almost bullied into the pen and the late free kick by their fans, still dont think either should have been given, weak reffing that, we needed a better ref than that wanker.
4 league games unbeaten, 5 games unbeaten in 90 mins including the draw at Posh.
Saying it like that doesnt sound too bad.

I've just seen who the ref is for tomorrow Charles Breakspear It was inevitable. The guy is consistently diabolically shit. The 'handball' at the end is a disgrace.

Weirdly I thought he had quite a good game apart from the free kick at the end... and the penalty... and the offside for the fourth (that's on the lino). Bit like Mahoney conceding five and having a good game - there were just a huge number of decisions to make in that game, some of them are going to be wrong.

For all the things s that went against us and there were a few but no surprise.....the defending for the first goal was terrible.

The last time we had a 5-5 was against Sheff Utd, and we were well in front and nearly lost that one.
The game yesterday very much reminded me of the end of that season - we were great with the ball, played some lovely stuff, but we were playing three ball players in midfield as well as a defence without any real old school defenders and we started to get bullied.
It's clearly a league lower, but we look a bit like that. Very cavalier, great on the eye, but a few teams will work out the weaknesses.
We need an organiser in the centre of defence - the three we have are going to concede too many.
We need a bully in midfield - someone to mix it up a bit, distract or wind up the other team, but mainly someone willing to forget about attacking when the time comes and just run amok defending for their life.
We need someone different up top, physical athlete type.
I see enough to get in the play off hunt - there is more to work with than we finished last season with for sure. If we score 3 goals a game, we should well pick up some points, but we don't threaten the top three without those extra bodies to ensure we can grab a few ugly 1-0's along the way, or even a 0-0 away from home. I don't think those additions would detract from how we are trying to play.

thats very positive for you Robert! im not stressing too much at the moment. we are missing a lot of players and pulling out results. you can see flynns reluctance to use the bench in these games. theres nothing on it! for any criticism he gets i love having players like shade on the bench to bring on where they can run around against tired legs he does also pop up with the odd off the shin goal. we have players to come back into the fold and we have players that we will sign (hopefully) 3 points against crawley on saturday will be seen as a very good start to the season. as a side note. i see jack payne coming on for charlton in the 90th plus minute on saturday. can't see that he is loving the league one move right now.

Only just managed to bring myself to watch the goals back.
One of my main issues, other than Hutton and FBT's powderpuff efforts for the first, is the ridiculous defensive set up for the final goal.
The famous 'draught excluder' is risible, and we leave two danger men totally unmarked on the right hand side of our wall (left as you watch on TV), one of whom then scores. Mahoney must have be able to see almost nothing.
I remember League One Wes setting up for an indirect free kick in the box back in the day where he stood in front of everyone, and the defenders lined up on the goal line behind him. I can't help but think that that approach might be better in those last minute, edge of the box circumstances.

Looking forward to the final Go-Pro clips. To be honest, fair play to him. Could have phoned it in for the season whilst be wanked off by Yanks online. I respect that.

Felt pretty positive after the game, which is probably odd after conceding 5 and throwing away 3 goal lead. As with some of the previous games, we showed some patches where we played some great stuff. Significantly better than the previous season.
Also, let's face it. If the performance of those officials is reviewed, they'd all be 'sitting out' next week. VAR removes 3 of those goals. Never a pen. Never a free kick. The boy is offside for the 4th. But pretty much everyone I spoke to guessed we'd be playing against 12 men. I don't want to blame the ref too much though, and we didn't help ourselves with some shite defending (weirdly seeing Brewitt slander when FBT and Hutton were caught out far more). We panicked far too much with their bombardment in the second half and we should've managed the game better.
Nonetheless, a very good day out. Decent weather, very good atmosphere, 10 goals in an entertaining game of football. Fair play to Wrexham, I thought their support was very good. No chance you'd catch us being that loud at 4-1 down. Have to credit our own fans of course, who made some good noise and we got some praise from Wrexham fans I had a beer with after the game. Also, as much as their defence was woeful, Wrexham were very good at getting the ball forward and had some very tidy players. You'd think they'll figure out their backline (and goalkeeper, RIP Foster) and certainly be up there.
I'm feeling pretty positive about this season now. We need to sign Kemp and Young immediately. Wonder if Chris Kiely fancies more shares....
