Austin having a solid swing at Morris in the first line of his post match there "Nice to play my position and not be asked to do something my body doesn't allow me to do"

Yeah. And making it clear that he’d actually like to be back at the club next year. Will talk to Flynn about it. Slightly surprised at that.

He wouldn’t have said that if Morris was still here.

Interesting to see that despite our game being 10th vs 22nd in the table with both teams having nothing really to play for we still had the 2nd highest attendance of the day, the only one higher was Bradford vs champiopns Orient. Even play off bound Stockport had 300 less.

Which rather supports the point I just made. He's good for a couple of things, use him for them. Better finisher than anyone else in this entire Division, just not going to run around and be a creator or press the opposition. Basically we had three players in an attacking sense once January was over: Hutton - good at getting beyond the fullback and crossing Williams - good when given a free role Austin - good when playing in the box You had to find 8 other players set-up to enable them, to defend for them. Basic instructions - get the ball to Williams, let him feed Austin or play the ball out wide to Hutton, get the final ball to Austin. Everyone elses job was to support that. Instead Morris tried to instill his "identify" on a squad woefully under resourced, in talent terms, for what he was asking. Didn't he also complain about stamina - yet decided to use players like Austint to try and press. It's been a right old shit slog of a season - the underpinning issue is Know How, a lack of it, at every level of the club. No foundation built. Lets hope Flynn tells them what he needs.

I think we have all been saying since he arrived that Austin needs to be playing as a striker. 9 goals in 15 starts (20 games in total) is a great result and proves he very much still has it when fed the ball. Bear in mind he turned down 2 penalties too in that so could easily be 11 goals in 15 starts.

Amazing that many fans were aghast at not keeping Gladwin, and almost as many wanted us to sign Grant, who looked about 50 years old when McEachran(I think) strolled past him

Most tinpot thing I’ve ever seen: Lindsey giving the Crawley fans a wave at 2-1 down. Absolute amateur clown.

I didn't think Gladwin was anywhere near his old best this season, you'd be a fool to think he could be given his body has taken a bit. However, I'd have had him as one of the three over any of Cain, McEachran, Darcy, Khan etc. He'd have been able to guide those around him a little. Even then, he really wasn't the quality level we need to be going for top three, but those other ones give you precisely what we got, bottom five type of talent/performances because they are so similar and lacking in know how.

There was a whole bunch of mediocrity on display today, ours was a bit better than theirs. If Morris looks back on his time with us and wants to learn how to be a better Manager, just watch what getting Austin the ball within the box can do at L2 level. Sod all the shapes and patterns, it's a simple enough league. Use what you have to the maximum, especially when someone shoots your transfer window in the foot and leaves you with a squad of meh.
Genuinely think we should try and keep our strikers (not Adeloye) and go two up top next season. Playing a bit more direct with the likes of Austin and Jephcott screams goals to me.

Said it before - for this level a striker depth chart of Austin, Wakeling, Jephcott & RHM is decent. The issue this season is the lack of wingers enabling us to go 442 - usually making us go 433 and none of our 4 strikers are wide strikers so then you can only play one in the middle and have to shift 2 more out wide - or - push some attacking midfielders there but we’ve seen Williams, Darcy etc can’t play there either. Previous season we probably had a weaker #9 in Davison but he had great wide support from McKirdy & Barry.

Gladwin had a run of about three or four games where he looked decent early this season and nothing since. Grant has been shot for a while and people just overlook it because they like him.

Yeah, I'd be happy with those strikers sewn up next season if we're going 2 up top. Rest of the squad needs big work though.

Somewhat enjoyed that. Some positives to take into next season, however, 2-1 flattered Crawley who really should’ve been taken apart 4 or 5-1. Think it shows the potential of a few of the squad, such as Cain and RHM, however, Crawley were so poor I’m unsure how much we can take from it. Regardless, we didn’t lose to Scott Lindsey and it gives a slight bit of hope to take into next season. Was nice to hear from Michael Flynn and I hope he can get a correct blend of youth and experience in the summer, as opposed to the youngsters we recruited last summer.
