Had to have my little pup (an 11 year old Bichon/Shihtzu cross) put to sleep on Thursday evening, he had been ill a while, our 8 year old poodle is constantly looking for him as they have never been apart.

Still very raw and the wife is absolutely distraught, even though you know its coming you are never fully prepared for it, he was our little baby and was rarely away from my side when I was at home.

This was little bugger the day we brought him home aged just over 6 weeks.

Still really miss him even though he was a pain in the bum at times.

So sorry Venks.
Massive dog lover and always have Labradors, my favourite dogs for so many reasons.
Lost 3 in my lifetime and it’s broken me every time.
Have another one currently and without doubt my best friend.

Losing a dog is up there with the worst empty feeling you can endure. More so than losing close friends.
After all they are family, super intelligent and possess an amazing sense of emotions.
Equally losing a dog it’s about temporarily putting them on the grieving pedestal, no dog compares and all part of the grieving process. However you can love again and they are like children you can love more than one.
One fundamental point is at the right time never forget another dog needs a loving owner like yourself.

RIP little one and never gone in spirit and memories.

Cats are not even on the same scale as dogs.

I think, deep down, you know cats can look after themselves. If we all disappeared one day, our cats would live on. You can't say the same for most dogs. They need us.

That said I cried like a baby when I lost my cats.

It is almost certainly that. Cats like you when it suits them to like you, little pricks. Whereas with dogs you are as important to them as they are to you.

It’s hard, this thread clearly demonstrates that. I feel with dogs their devotion to their owners is unconditional and I think that’s what hurts. They know when you’re down they know when you’re up and they are always by your side.

This LL. Maybe you aren’t so bad or indifferent to opinion as me.

Just had my girl spayed. 300 notes down. Poor thing seems as flat as a pancake following the anesthetic.

She'll be fine in a day or so, when we had ours done (just before the first lock down) she staggered out the vets like she had been on the piss all day, took to her bed over night and then the next day was her normal dickish self again, main problem was trying to keep her still until the stitches healed, we went for the jkt rather than cone which seemed to work OK.

Flipper always looked like he had an edge so I'd quite believe that.

Totally we had shed loads of cats and dogs when I was growing up and it never gets easier when you lose one.

Cats still get me today, there was an appeal yesterday from one of the local shelters trying to home two cats together one was 19 the other 18 (didn't know cats could last that long), broke my pathetic heart to think of those two old girls being turfed out of their home and into a shelter!

We have a dog now, but I can get my cat fix as both our neighbours have cats and they have divvied it up so one has our front garden as their patch and one the rear. Interestingly for all their self sufficiency we see a hell of a lot more of them when their respective owners are away!
