Exercise lots as it helps a lot mentally. Diet hit and miss, could be a lot worse though

My diet is OK but I don't exercise nearly enough. I have yet to find something that fits with my lifestyle that I can stick to. I also drink too much - probably 20-25 units per week. I'm in my 50s,  overweight (5-10 kg) and conscious of it.

I’m evidently in the minority but I found exercise was an awful idea many years ago when I was depressed.

I was fine exercising but ended up having massive come downs that made me feel worse than I didd to begin with.

That's quite interesting as you never hear of anyone having come downs after exercise but it must be more common that we know about. How did you get by at the time medication, professional help or did it eventually pass with time.

First, I must clarify it was self diagnosed.
I went to a doctor who basically decide to take a blood test and really didn’t listen to me at all. I’ve genuinely never felt so humiliated and small as when I left his office.

Lots of people have difference experiences of it but my two spells of it where due to specific things depressing me.

Things I wanted/needed to change but had limited to no control over - so didn’t think any professional help would have been any use.

Thankfully in both cases things got resolved one way or another and it’s never been an issue since.

Truth be told still feel somewhat like a fraud claiming I had depression seen as it was self diagnosed and about specific things.

Particularly when other people (like those who have opened up on here before) suffer from it constantly but also can’t even put an exact reason on why they feel the way they do - they just do.

They have to live with it rather than solve it.

I imagine that can be completely soul destroying.

No doubts you had stuff going on at the time which made you feel depressed but you managed to find a way to overcome those low points which will hopefully help you through life.
