So, if that got you talking (or probably even not) you can check out our special edition of Rip It Up, where we talk about the nation Milo fully backs (hint, it's not the USA) and soon learns the fate of very quickly. We also discuss our top 5 picks as well as our most weird entries. There's a few special mentions too as we host the Rip It Up Podcast: Eurovision 2021 Edition. And remember, "Rock n Roll never dies!"

I love a bit of Eurovision. Iceland’s entry last year was a fantastic bit of pop, and it’s a shame it didn’t get a chance to win. Got some radio play I think?

Agree, that was excellent. Hot Chip did a remix that got a fair bit of play too (although I don't think it was particularly an improvement). Not sure there was anything quite that catchy last night but the general standard was actually quite high, a distinct shortage of genuine shockers. Only really Germany, and they compensated by having a woman dressed as a middle finger.

We could reincarnate Bonzo & enter Led Zeppelin and Europe still wouldn’t vote for the UK.
The only time they like us is when they are taking our money.
Sack off entering it, you can always watch the nonsense without the UK no points entry

Bill Bailey has volunteered, which frankly seems ideal as it would be actually funny and he's good at music. Ultimately we keep sending middle of the road unknown pop acts and wondering why they fail. The guy yesterday was fine but I forgot it while it was still happening and even without political voting that was a bottom 6 entry. The Italian act that won has an actual established fanbase and two number 1 albums in Italy - I didn't really get it but it's clear a different tier of artist being sent. Bit chicken and egg now I guess in that nobody decent would ever do it, so perhaps we need a few novelty acts to rebuild some goodwill (and perhaps not have Amanda Holden joking about not knowing anything about European languages) before sending someone half decent. Anyway, it was good fun and good telly. As ever the best way to enjoy Eurovision is to switch off after the performances!

Lolz, I watch it for the results part mostly. Just to see how much further the scoring gets away from the level of acts. As for James Newman, love or hate him but he has written at least a couple of No.1 tracks and is pretty well known in the industry. It wasn't a "Eurovision" song but then neither was the Italian and Swiss ones. All very niche. If anything Malta probably should have done much better on the public vote. Who knew the more "anti Eurovision" types who enjoy Rock, Metal, Emo etc are actually the biggest closet fans

There was quite a long thread on Twitter from a guy who knows about the mechanics of music (keys/BPM that sort of thing) noting that the style of winning songs has changed hugely in the last 20 years, but we keep on sending stuff of a style/composition which was the same as won all those years back, i.e. trends have changed and the Uk hasn't. It amuses me how much it gets under the skin of many and feeds the perpetual victimhood of many on social media, I see on Sunday morning there was plenty of witterings about 'If we hadn't saved them from the Nazi's they couldn't have their silly competition' and much moaning of the cost and we shouldn't pay it as it isn't fair apparently. I think it costs the BBC about c£400k for it, which seems pretty cheap for c.8-10 hours of primetime show which is watched by 5m+, you wouldn't get that sort of RoI on most primetime telly.

I did have it E/W so got a small return also, but at one stage it did look like they were going to do it at 40/1 so a little disappointing.

A couple of years back I had cash on Israel at pretty long odds and they were doing really well, then the public vote got involved.....

I read a serious thread on FB that was basically 'they don't give us points in Eurovision, yet they want our Euro come holidays'.
It was pretty funny and horrifying in equal measure
It does explain a lot though
