From what I've seen we have a technically superior team to both last season and the wembley PO season. Whether we will have the consistency or know how to push at the top remains to be seen, Although for sure we shouldnt bother the bottom half at all. If I was a betting man I'd say somewhere between 9th and 6th at the moment. Although injuries etc or even a good run could change that either way.

I wonder if the Gary Roberts comment about it being a shit year at Swindon was more a dig at Paolo. He did say he had nothing against the club or the fans so it makes me wonder.

It was definitely a dig at Paolo, no doubt about it. He also tweeted around the same time about Sunderland going down

Quite a few of our former players have had digs at Paolo since he left. It's quite amusing

I'm less certain than you Sutton.

So far the season has exceed my expectation by quite some way. But I think its too early to call it as a not going to finish bottom half of the season just yet. Pitches turn shitty , and we haven't seen whether the youngsters can fight when we go through an inevitable sticky spell.

Very very encouraging though. I'm being cautious rather than negative.

And Black described him as 'management by hand grenade'.. which I don't think was intended to be complimentary.

I do wonder how people can be so sure about an upcoming season without having seen us play or without even knowing what the squad will be.

It'll happen next season as well, and the one after that..... and so on.

As for my expectations: I didn't set any and that hasn't changed, except I do now expect us to not get relegated.

Ooops.

I put that in the wrong thread.

Ho hum

Would be interesting to compile a little bank of such comments. Probably too much effort though!

Way to early, to take the r word out of your consideration...of the 16 games Cooper has been involved in as cone collecter, caretaker or gaffer...we've had one away win at Yeovil, but 6 consecutive defeats...4 home wins, but only against 2 different teams, Stevenage and Crewe.

The away form definitely needs to show signs of improvement in the league...the cup win was welcome, but it's the nature of cup football that sometimes you get an odd result thrown up.

It's best to stick to old saws, like take each game as it comes, get to 50 points and then see where you are etc.

A lot of the doubters have gone quiet.  I do think we are one loss away from it starting up again.

The majority of the doubters' grievances (mine included) were about the lack of transparency and poor communication. The fact that we appear to have assembled a capable squad should not take away from the fact that many of us had genuine concerns. We were being spun half-truths, had concerns of another Diamandis-like figure in the background with a colourful past, and we had heard from a number of sources that Steve Murrall was getting into dust-ups at the ground. First impressions count - their's was not good.

So it's entirely wrong to suggest that we should not have criticsed this board. McCrory telling fans on twitter that they were wrong to criticise off the back of a five nil win misses the point. The board's communication has improved, they have removed the B&B owner, and there have been no more stories of Murrall getting his fists out. That is a positive, and worthy of praise. It must continue though.
