I'll get this in before he does it...

Do people really take any notice of this on food nowadays? There are so many bargains to be had at supermarkets. If I have food at home I won't chuck it out just because it's a few days 'out of date'.

I'm just about to have some eggs that were bbe 31st July. Will I die? Or get get GRID?

Best Before - safe to eat out of date, might not taste good
Use By - Contract ebola if you eat after this date.

My missus always chucks stuff away that is out of date (whichever type of date it is). She thinks that something BBE 1st September will magically go off and be poisonous to eat once it gets to midnight on 31st August. Amazing how they can be so accurate with these things.

Occasionally I do sneak a bit of milk into her tea that is out of date. I live dangerously me.

If the eggs smell when you crack them then chuck them, otherwise they should be fine. As with all foods cook them through throughly and you should be ok.

I also disregard sell by/bb dates, and just use sight and smell, if doesn't look/smell nice then throw it.

My rule of thumb -

If it's meat, it gets binned.
If it looks and smells ok, it gets eaten.

There you go then, I was right except for eggs.

Quote
Eating food past its “best before” date is unlikely to be harmful, unless it is eggs. Eggs come with “best before” rather than “use by” dates and, provided they’re cooked thoroughly, can be eaten up to a day or two after this date, but no later.

Sippo will be dead by now though. Ooops.

I have 6 eggs which have a BBE date of 3rd August.

however I am away this weekend so will have to use them up tonight or or tomorrow morning. Unlikely I am going to have time to use them tomorrow morning so any suggestions for a tasty meal for something involving 6 eggs?

I could throw 2 at my neighbour, as he is a total flid.

I've come to the conclusion that I've eaten so much meat that's been almost raw in my lifetime (and survived), that eating something a few days past the use-by date isn't really going to do me much harm.

Steak is better almost raw, well rare at least. Bloody well-done wankers ruin steak.
