I've eaten loads of raw fruit and vegetables.

Wow, such a risk taker!

The only foods i'm funny about are raw white meats and eggs.
If they're past their use by date, i'll bin them.

Anything else, i'll just go by smell, appearance and texture.

I'm a right fussy cunt about such things - especially meat, bread and milk. I'm part of the 'chuck it out at midnight' brigade.

If it made no difference at all they wouldn't bother having the dates anyway, that's my theory.

Bread-milk-eggs-meat will get binned by the date. Anything else is fair game imo.

It's the "eat within 2 days of opening" that bugs me. How long do supermarkets keep stuff on the deli counter? Are they limited to 2 days?

It's a marketing ploy to make people buy more.

Bread will get chucked when it starts to turn mouldy, even then you get ill from mouldy bread. I'm lead to believe that's the mould they make penicillian from. I think some of the BB dates are a clever supermarket marketing ploy.

I only pay attention to use by dates on eggs. The rest I'll use my own judgement.

I have a massive vat of chilli sauce that has a BBE date in 2009 - still tastes lovely!

From someone in the game...Food...

Frozen food is fine unless freezer burned.

I often sell out of date stuff to clearance wholesalers with a certificate of extension.

Cans are ok unless blown or bulged.

Fresh food? Smell it......if ok....eat it.

There was a fella last year lived for a month on food of all descriptions that was deemed out of date.

Blogged it for a newspaper. Some of the stuff was way past its date and he had no adverse reactions at all.
