Series 2 Slow Pace was down to character development. If anyone watches the Talking Dead which is a chat show in the states dedicated solely to Walking Dead, they have a different character from the show talking about the show...anyway one of the recent episodes it was mentioned how much each character has changed a huge amount since series 2. And it would not have been that obvious if the stories based around the farm would have been rushed.
IMHO the pace was only slowed down because of the Shane/Rick/Lori story if things happened like they did in the comics then this could have been avoided. But like i said i liked the character development, most of all Daryl and also Carol and Sophie.
With Merle and Daryl Getting a new first person shooting game i can see them playing a huge role over the next half of this series.
