Never. They are just in the league above us that is all, haven't achieved anything either in the second half of their existence.  Smiley

Hate to say this, but league position over the last couple of years suggests that as it stands they possibly are.

Hence why I find it funny how shite their crowds are.

I see its being jumped on by the normal anti EV brigade on SM as another reason why we shouldn't have leccy cars but basically, it could just as easily happen in a modern automatic transmission IC car...

Been a few cases of EVs blowing up while charging (much the same as with electric bikes). Also Teslas going haywire.

Slightly off topic, in Singapore there is a cap on the number of vehicles of any kind allowed. Just to get permission it costs £88,000 - before you buy a car

Similar to Japan where you have to prove you have somewhere to park it (a policemen comes out and checks) before you can buy it.

Except you could just turn it off or put it in neutral or park.

Until they sort out a few things people won’t buy EVs in numbers

Child slave labour mining the lithium
Price
Charging points - those without the ability to charge at home are stuffed financially
Time it takes to recharge
Range of a charge
Insurance is apparently very high

Can you on moderns though, can't comment on the gearbox but you can't turn our Skoda off if its moving. I would imagine similarly with the gearbox even an auto its no longer you physically engaging or disengaging drive more by moving the handle you talk to the ECU which then electronically operating some servo's which again as with the ignition depends on the ECU letting you do it?

My mate who works in the trade posted the below when we discussed on the WhatsApp group

It's known as "Sudden unintended acceleration" - Despite the headlines, this isn't an electric car problem (i.e it has nothing to do with the type of drivetrain) - it's an electrically _controlled_ car problem. like most modern cars everything is controlled by the computer, not by a direct connection between control and function. The same thing has happened with a number of IC cars, IIRC there was a famous one with a Renault in France a decade or so back. Traditionally you'd have a manual gearbox (so could put it in neutral), hydraulic brakes (which are usually strong enough to overcome the engine), and a cable handbrake - The ZS EV does have hydraulic brakes, so I am assuming in this case that the electronic brake distribution decided to over-ride the brake pedal application - that's the terrifying bit.

We ain't gonna have a huge amount of choice, whatever the government say most of the companies are committed to stopping selling ICE's in this country by 2030, I know for example VW have suggested they are going to completely stop developing new ICE models min about 3 years?

I’d imagine most peoples charabangs will go on for quite a few years. Price will be the main drawback and I can’t see that dropping enough for the majority of people to afford.

Millions will be forced off the road entirely - which may well be the idea.

Just thinking aloud.
I doubt that either of the 2 "main" parties would go for it, but in a few years time could there be a case for a state owned budget mass produced electric car manufacturer to be incorporated?
To borrow from the "spark plug with a roof" description of the good old Trabant, why not a nifty "battery with a roof" for the day to day runabout?

People reluctant to give up driving their tanks could still go with whatever EV's the private manufacturers come up with, albeit at a premium price.

the problem, other than price imo, is only a few ev have a half decent range.

if there's going to be a VolksEV  then it's going to have to solve both.
