£40k a year for 20 years or £400,000 lump sum now?
That's a nice dilemma to have!

All to do with my house in Ireland and the EU and wind turbines.
I applied for planning permission for 3 turbines on my land as there was a wind farm of 17 right next to me. It was rejected because the 17 were the max. Now, the good old EU have supposedly increased the quota countries have to produce renewable energy and my application has been accepted.
The energy company running the 17 will buy and erect my 3. The going rate is €15,000 per turbine per year guaranteed for 20 years. As I'm knocking on a bit I was pondering the one off lump sum.

No contest, whether you are knocking on or not anything can happen in an instant and change your life forever, take the money and run.

It's not quite as brilliant as it sounds as my outlay on the house/kennels etc was around €200,000 cash.
When I left I couldn't sell it for half that which is why I kept it.
The wedge does sound tempting, though

If only I could think of one with an unpopular owner who'd accept a cheeky bid.

Take the money, assuming your income is sorted for retirement. You never know what's round the corner.

The income, non inflation-proofed, equates to around £650k over 20 years in "today" money.
The lump sum, if invested, could be worth £800k+ in 20 years. Plus there's the opportunity benefit of having the money available to spend today.

It's bizarre that people seem more concerned about someone democratically elected in a foreign country, than politicians doing worse in their own country, over which their vote gives them some say.
