Ordered a new YouView box from BT and lowered my monthly bill at the same time. Lovely jubbly.

I'm just looking at a new PVR, can't make my mind up. I want to be able to watch recorded content on my PC but the shops have been unable to tell me which ones can do this. Been reading through avforums and now my brain is fried.

There are some but none you would get in your local Comet or Currys, bit of a specialist bit of kit. Your best bet might be a DVB-T card for your PC

A lot of them say you can access the pvr through wifi, it's just not clear exactly what you can access.

Not surprised your brain is fried. Just scanned through a few of them and they are at least 2 years old. From what I can gather the 3view would have done the job, no response from their site though so might have gone tits up

The ones lower down about the Samsung and Panasonic ones are from a few months ago. Google isn't being much help either.

It was either the Panny or Samsung I read that you couldn't do what you want due to DRM. Is it a tower or a lappie that you want to use?

The Panasonic 220 is just a BlueRay player from what I can make out

Your options for a PC pci card. Obviously you'd have to run an aerial lead to it but the cost of the card + fitting a new aerial lead etc would probably be the equivalent of a £250 box anyhow

Thanks but I want the box for the lounge anyway, I'd just like to have the facility to watch recorded films upstairs as well.

Sorry I couldn't help more, but your options are extremely limited, though I could recommend a few options starting around £450 and they wouldn't exactly be plug and play

Just read this review of the E7500 http://www.stuff.tv/review/samsung-stb-e7500

It does state that

Samsung STB-E7500 – intro

Media streamers are seldom sexy, but Samsung’s STB-E7500 is an honourable exception to the rule. It’s the TV recorder that does it all, a part-streamer, part network-player super-hub that can cater for your every viewing need. Want to timeshift BBC One HD, catch up with the iPlayer or the new BBC Sport app, stream LoveFilm or Netflix and even replay your recorded and ripped files over your network? The STB-E7500 does the lot – and more besides…
