Not discovered the world of torrents yet then?
Honest answer - no. I don't really understand a lot of technology. What are torrents, and how do they stop my missus falling asleep?

They are a way of downloading just about anything that you want to. It really is quite easy They won't stop your misses from falling asleep, but it will stop you from having to do silly errands for silly movies. Google is your friend.

Bily Shears, first go to www.utorrent.comdownload the torrent client, which is a very small programme which allows you to download torrents (you connect to multiple other users who are downloading the same thing so you get faster speeds. then go to a website which has has torrent files on it (I've PMed you a link). type in whatever movies or music you want. you download a tiny torrent file then when you open that it connects you to the download of whatever you wanted.

Me neither.
The good sites get rid of the infested torrents quickly.
Maybe arriba is thinking of p2p sites such as limewire?

The lounge would be a better place to discuss the specifics about where to download torrents...

This is true. Although I would just like to take this opportunity to be pedantic and mention that torrents themselves are neither immoral nor illegal.

Although it'd be hard to prove it was actually you sat at the computer at that time etc. etc. by leeching that torrent you're actually seeding it too (no matter how small a part of the file you've downloaded) so technically you are file hosting/sharing and if that content is copywrite protected then you're liable to civil prosecution. Let's just say an employee/agent of the publishing house is also leeching the same torrent. They can log IP addresses for everyone who leeches the part of the file that they seed. If they really want to, they can then apply to the courts to get your ISP to release your details and you'll then get a nice threatening letter asking for a rather large sum of money or they'll threaten you with court action.

I'm not talking about sharing pirated goods through torrents, I was just referring to torrents as a protocol.
If I had my own shizzle that I made myself, for example, then I could share it with whomever I wanted. Granted this discussion came about through talking about downloading copyrighted goods.
But my pedant was that there is nothing illegal about the torrent protocol.

Whilst technically it is illegal to download copyrighted material the lawsuits tend to be against the site that hosts the torrents not the individual users e.g if you download The Lion King via the pirate bay disney might try to harass the people who run the pirate bay but it won't come back to you.
I don't think any individual has been prosecuted just for downloading.
