I know this won't help, but I've always avoided properties that have management companies operating.
Unfortunately not possible if you buy a new build these days.
Management companies are used because it means the councils don't have to pay for the repairs and upkeep of the estate. Wouldn't be surprised if it's part of the agreement made when the council passes planning permission for these developers.
The worse thing is you have more rights if you have a leasehold property than you do if your freehold hence why the term fleecehold has appeared
