You couldn't make it up This country/EU are fucking useless. https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/articles/ce399l1329loClaimed asylum here after popping over on a boat following 5 years in an Italian jail for attempted drug smuggling. No decision made on his asylum claim in UK in 3 fucking years. Gets involved almost straight away in people smuggling. Will now cost the taxpayer over £1m to keep in jail. ONE person. Pathetic.

What I don’t understand is if the illegals are paying thousands to be ferried across the Channel, why don’t they just spend a few quid on an air ticket and fly over?

Because they wouldn't be allowed on the plane without a visa. You can only apply for asylum from within the UK, but there is no asylum visa enabling people to get here in the first place.

Its a myth, such a requirement has never existed! So we have a system that makes it impossible for anyone to claim asylum in the UK unless they are in the UK (meaning that smuggling is literally the only option for them), which makes claimants entirely dependent on the state when they get here, and until July 2024 a Government that had little interest in processing nor actually sending people back unless it was in a manner that Daily mail readers could knock one out over, pretty much a perfect storm of shit show.

I'm all for freedom of speech etc, and I've said for ages I'd get off Twitter, but I guess the lure of driving slowly past a car crash to take a look is too hard to leave.
But why does everything these days have to have such a conspiracy theory edge to it? (I get that controversy gets 'clicks') take the car driving into the crowd of people in Liverpool. The police have announced a 53 year old man has been arrested and charged. Here is where the news, for me stops. It goes through the due process. The press will find out who he is eventually, the details will be made public, yada yada.
But if you go on Twitter, you've got every Tom, Dick and Karen saying 'why are there no pictures/video of the man being put into the police van', 'look at this slowmo video of the man in the car, does he look 53 to you' type nonsense? I just can't get my melon around why people think like this.
Maybe I'm not the sane one here?

Whilst I remember. I forgot to pay the fucking Dartford crossing for the second time in my life over the weekend. Remembered yesterday walking into work and paid, 8 hours late. I expect to get a £35 fine for my trouble. Annoying as I did exactly the same about 2 years ago!

I can trump that. Sadly. My old van was registered with TFL. I’d forgotten about until I had a letter from a debt collection company a cpl of weeks ago. I know it was sold on from the bloke who I sold it to. The new owners drove it in London. I contacted TFL after I spoke to the agency. I cannot find my portion of the V5 so I paid up the £12.50. They’ll not get away with it again, my TFL account has been closed 🙄
