Just been done myself for exactly the same speed in a 30, right as you come off the dual carriageway on the way out of Bath.

Oh wow, I thougt mine was bad! Have you put in your plea letter yet? I think it helped minimise my fine and escape a ban.

Got a barrister filing a plea for me ahead of being called for a court appearance.

Driving for 35 years, never had an accident, never been banned.  Do about 30k every year.  But this could ban me if they don't take the extenuating circumstances.  Fuckers.

Not sure if any of you realise this (I didn't and like you do a lot of miles over 1.3million miles since the late 80’s) but the yellow motorway cameras still flash in the 50 MPH average speed sections! Never, ever seen that up until then. Happened behind me and I’ve been paranoid about it. Nothings come into the company yet so I’m hopeful it was someone else. I pay particular attention to the 50 MPH road work sections because of the personnel working there, so I’d have been mortified if it was me.

It's too far over the speed limit for that option.

Source: I got 6 points and £400 fine for doing 86 in a 50. Was lucky not to be banned.

Speed over twice the limit or 100MPH + = compulsory disqualification.

That can catch people out- the motorway regulations start and end at the part of the sliproad furthest from the motorway so, any speed restrictions for road works or variable speed limit zones are still applicable on the slip road.

There used to be a 14 day period in which they had to notify you.  Don’t know if that still applies but would think you’d be ok by now.

I think it's still there, but you have to show they didn't follow reasonable procedure in getting it to you within 14 days.

So, e.g., if Postman Legett delays the letter that should have been there within 14 days its still valid.

God knows how you can make sure procedures were followed mind.

It is called a Notice of Intended Prosecution (NIP) and, the requirement is that they have 14 days from having the information needed to identify the person being prosecuted/ticketed.

If it is a hire car, they NIP the company (14 days) and the company has 28 days (I think) to respond with the details of the hirer. They then have 14 days to notify the hirer that they intend to prosecute the driver. If the hirer isn't the driver, they have 28 days to advise Police of the identity the driver. Police then have 14 days to NIP the driver so, it can take a while.

Having waffled on about that though, most of us on here are probably the owners of the cars we drive so, once the reg is checked, 14 days to let you know.

The rider to the above info is- it was correct at the time of retirement (June 2014) so things might have changed.
