Probably not what you want to hear, but you'll struggle to find an employer in the private sector paying more than 3% into a pension. 5% tops maybe.

I definitely understand the maths behind your decision, but you've got to factor in the job satisfaction and your own happiness as well.

Nationwide contribute double digits from vague memories of looking around before - suspect half the forum works there and could confirm.

But yeah, most places I've worked were pretty poor.

I am awaiting one job which does it pension via salary sacrifice scheme. You pay a percent and they match it. Turning the job down was not an easy decision.

Employee contribution 7% (4% min, the rest is optional), NBS contribute 13%

Yeah very happy with it. Got 10 years in a civil service pension, and 4 years in NHS too.

I pay 6.5% into my Local Government Pension, i don't know how much they pay in but i've been here 18 years, another 13 to go and if i'm here to the end the pension is decent enough (pay not great, but swings and roundabouts).

I worked for a bank before that and had a final salary pension which is protected and goes up each year, i can take that when i'm 60 so i should be ok when i retire.

M&S’s was good. Maximum 6% from wages then they doubled that and paid 12%.

I was only there 5 years part time but even then it was a tidy little cash sum.

Isn't NBS' contribution just to top up the shortfall highlighted in the mid 2000s due to all the final salary scheme members and not actually their contribution % ?

Sorry if this is wrong haven't worked in NBS finance for 15 years (some may say I didn't do much work in the previous 10 either  Grin)

Nope and I just checked, they also match the optional contributions so I am paying in 7% and they are paying in 16%
