I was making Ovaltine for the misses at the same time, that's where the sugar was intended for.

Not sure if this has been posted on here but for some reason it fucking annoyed me.

A Reading perspective on the goings on recently at STFC.

Quote
Swindon Town remind us they are a laughing stock

Our Reading FC columnist has taken a look at what's happening down the M4 following the arrival of Tim Sherwood

Excuse me for dipping outside the Championship for a moment but what on earth is going on at Swindon Town?

Reading may not have played their bitter rivals competitively for 14 years but I’m sure many of their fans are having a good chuckle at the mess at the Wiltshire club.

For a start, under the guidance of head coach Luke Williams, Swindon are languishing in the nether reaches of League One.

Yet instead of dismissing Williams, as is the norm these days, Robins chairman Lee Power has brought in long-time friend Tim Sherwood, as director of football, to lend a helping hand.

Power further stuck the boot in to Williams by announcing that Sherwood, the former Tottenham Hotspur and Aston Villa manager, would “head up all aspects, including transfers, the way that we play, the formations and the picking of the team”.

Sherwood sprung into action immediately.

He initially sat in the stands for the 3-0 victory over Charlton Athletic but reportedly visited the home dressing-room at half time to deliver a team talk.

For the FA Cup first-round replay against Eastleigh, he got even more involved when moving to the dug-out as Swindon struggled at the County Ground.

Fat lot of good that did, with Swindon losing 3-1 to their National League opponents.

For the league game at Rochdale last Saturday, Sherwood watched from the directors’ box at Spotland.

Just as well. He wouldn’t have wanted to be directly associated with that 4-0 defeat.

Yet imagine Brian Tevreden, Royals’ technical director, sticking his nose in on matchdays and telling manager Jaap Stam what to do and when to do it.

It just wouldn’t happen at the Mad Stad. And quite right, too.

Swindon have been a laughing stock for some time. The hugely undermined and embarrassed Williams is now toast, he’ll be gone soon.

And Power and his old chum Sherwood will have it just as they want it.

It's quite touching that they still think about us. Cheltnumb and probably Forest Green from next season are of more concern to me these days.

He refers to us as 'bitter rivals'
I don't think so, my friend.
Reading have never really featured on our radar,or anyone else's for that matter.

As more revelations on this come out, I'm just hoping that STFC aren't implicated

Any reason we should?

That Reading article did rankle, too. Maybe because it's what a lot of Town fans also wonder.

The Sherwood 'appointment' hasn't really be explained fully beyond he is responsible for everything that Williams used to be. Yet we haven't heard a single word from him on how he intends to run things.

The cynic in me wonders if hanging Luke out to dry post-match is designed to piss him off and leave without the club having to pay him off.

I must confess to not have looked tat the revelations in any detail, however as the guy was convicted in 1998? what has happened for all this to come out now, are these new revelations or just the publicising of what he was previously convicted for?

I too am not sure, why wasn't this in the news more back then? glad its come to light rather than being bottled up inside but now does seem a wierd timing for it to happen.

I find it hard to take anything written by a plastic that calls us laughing stocks seriously. That song, and these song sheets say it all

If its a conspiracy theory you want, I'd say Sherwood arriving and taking everything is a partial sham so that it takes the pressure off Williams until things improve.

Or that maybe Sherwood bankrolled Power and wanted to take back control of a failing investment

Or. Or..

Because no-one cared and the FA, clubs and the football establishment went out of their way to sweep it under the carpet. Which is part of the "scandal" now. It's coming back out again because Andy Woodward has come forward to speak out on what he went through in the hope of encouraging others to also come forward and so reopen an issue that was shoved to one side at the time. Quite successfully, by the looks of it.
