Animal owners whinging about firework night scaring their cats/dogs.
Now I have some sympathy, and yes it could be limited to a couple of weekends either side of firework night.
But a petition to ban the sale of fireworks? Get stuffed.
Doesn't bother my dog but I'd sign it as i appreciate how bad it is for some animals. It's utterly ridiculous nowadays with fireworks going off for weeks and weeks. Not to mention the pressure on our emergency services from it. Unless it's an organised event on November 5th it should be banned.

I'm sure the Sikhs / Hindus celebrating Diwali would have something to say about that. And don't forget New Year!

I'd ban dogs, they attack and kill people.

In some cases yes. dog licences should be brought back. like fireworks, they can be dangerous in the hands of idiots. Anything potentially dangerous should be licensed.

Don't be ridiculous. Knives? Screwdrivers? Booze? Horses?

knives are already restricted. Screwdrivers are not the same as fireworks and are a necessary tool but are restricted also. Booze is already licenced. Horses should be.

Knives are restricted in the same way fireworks are? Screwdrivers are obviously not the same but are "potentially dangerous". The point being, pretty much anything, in the hands of someone with ill will or lack of a brain, can be dangerous.

In what way are screwdrivers restricted (although they are restricted in that you cannot use a Phillips to undo a flat head?)

No, they are restricted more than fireworks. Of course anything could be dangerous but you have to draw a line somewhere. Fireworks are unnecessary In what way are screwdrivers restricted (although they are restricted in that you cannot use a Phillips to undo a flat head?)

Correct but there are those who dont use them right. And even those that do are a pain in the arse for pet owners- livestock etc. They leave a mess too. Rockets on roofs and the streets. Some tossers have been letting them off in the local park where i walk my dog and they are just left there.

Fireworks, at least the ones bought in your local supermarket, are shit; anyone who has ever bought them, or attended a friends home 'display' will know this. I don't want to ban them because they're dangerous, which they are, or could cause stress to animals, which they do, I want to ban them because they're shit. And they annoy me. And people who set them off after 8pm are dicks. Did I mention they were shit?
