Scottish nationalism = the extinction of human beings I'm not entirely sure the Arab Spring was caused by global warming either, but yes apart from that I'm sure we are all doomed "Things that mildly annoy you: the extinction of humanity". You don"t let things bother you too much then

Regularly see people cycling around with no lights, no helmet, no reflective gear and weaving in and out of traffic
Doesn't matter really does it though if you can still see them .

There seems to be this new craze called the "mannequin challenge" where, funnily enough you act like a mannequin. Its being reported on by the tabloids and online but no one seems to see the irony of placing photo's in their articles showing people doing aid challenge. Its a still photo, of course they will look like a fucking mannequin in a photo, challenge or not!!!

About a month ago I received a demand from HMRC for my late wife for unpaid tax, in the letter they said they would contact me with ways to pay.
A month later I've received nothing, so I called them to ask if they were going to bother to contact me to let me know how to pay.
Having explained the situation, the woman there asked if I had authority to discuss the demand from my late wife. Now apart from the fact that they sent the demand to me, I can hardly ask her now can I?
Anyway, despite saying they would send details on how to pay they hadn't bothered & presumably wouldn't have if I hadn't contacted them and would then have charged me extra for non payment

the extinction of human beings
Not before time. A zombie apocalypse would be interesting. Not sure about sticking neighbours heads with sharp objects though. When needs must.

Sorry to hear that Posh. I always assumed that you were not liable for anything, the estate is. Worth checking with someone who actually knows!

It is the estate that's liable. If you already have probate then you've nothing to worry about, you can't get that unless all taxes are settled.

I had appointed someone else to do all that stuff, they have already paid me the balance of the estate so I'd assumed everything was done. As it happens it's not a significant amount of money, it's just the fact that they took so long to send the demand (it was more than 6 months after she died)

Sorry for your loss, Posh You probably are liable to pay HMRC as anything paid to you is probably "residue" and debts, especially to priority creditors like HMRC, must be paid before you It is true that you are not directly liable but the Executor of the estate is and the executor recovers it from the beneficiary and I imagine you are therefore liable in all likelihood. There are many nuances and details but I would suggest it would likely be in your interests 1 to pay the demand 2 to check whether there is an obligation (self assessment) for your wife to complete a final tax return for the period going back from date of death to the preceding 6 April (this often yields a refund) 3 to ask whoever helped you to confirm the above view and enquire why they did not cover all of this earlier and at the latest when making a final payout to you. What mildly (more than mildly in fact) annoys me? HMRC's mindnumbing HOLD music that you are forced to listen to for ages.
