I was reading a news article on this scary clown guff and my little boy who's not yet 3 walks up and says "HAHA, Clown funny" It was definitely not a clown I would constitute as funny. We've raised a psychopath....
I think that's par for the course, I am convinced that my daughter who is three and a half is going into a career that involves a lair in a dormant volcano and a white cat! |

I think kids are just like that. They're either incredibly timorous and frightened of practically everything (Ells) or they just literally don't give a shit about anything (my godson, who bullies me for being frightened of things that don't bother him - he is 6.)
Phobias are usually learnt behaviours, so I guess they're just at that stage where they haven't learnt that (for cultural rather than realistic reasons) spiders or clowns are to be afraid of. I mean it's not like clowns are a natural predator of humans. Hopefully it stays that way!
Re: identity parades they do still use the old school ones in some places I think but most forces use VIPER/virtual identification procedures.

I think you're right. He's recently started watching scooby doo and loves it. I though he might be too young for it but i think it's helped him realise that they aren't monsters, it's just people wearing a mask. We were shopping and I tried on some Halloween masks, he was in fits of giggles. |

Am absolutely deathly arachnophobic (so thanks Batch  ) to the point where I've had to take time off work just because I've seen one. I can't read about them, I find the word spider difficult to even type or write. And I think it's largely due to the fact when I was growing up my nan would react to them with a similar terror. Kids see that and they learn these are things to be afraid of - just like they learn that some things are not. Spiders and similar insects/arachnids are damn fascinating things, and I think as a parent if you haven't got those phobias and you encourage your kids to learn about them and explore them they have very little chance of becoming as er, impaired as me  |
