Cheques. I have just had to write one (I can't believe I am typing this) for an event that I'm going to. My last cheque book was produced in 2009 and it has Lloyds TSB printed at the top. I even rang them up and asked if I could pay online, by bank transfer, instant payment or even PayPal. "No", I was told, "it has to go through the books". What the fuck? I have a mental image of their accountancy department stuck in the 19th century

I've got a holiday to Sharm el-Sheikh booked for next May. Recent events haven't really put me off.

I've got one booked for next July.  Hoping it's far enough away for everything to have settled down. It's typical though, usually we don't book until January, but I was trying to be more organised.

The only thing I ever write them for now is school trips.  My son's primary school is obviously a bit behind whereas my oldest son's secondary school doesn't even take cash.  Everything is done by a parentpay account and the kids use their fingerprint.

Enlighten me on the primary school Jo. I'm going to pop round in a professional capacity and raid the safe. Oh, do they still cross the cheques "account payee" these days?

When your drunken, relatively new girlfriend kicks off for no reason (honestly, I still can't work it out) and it wakes your nosey mum up.

These type of things should always be saved when you've been with somebody for a while and they're less likely to dump you!  All joking aside, it doesn't bode well and is also very disrespectful to your mum (assume it's her house?).  I don't imagine she'll be putting the welcome mat out anytime soon?

You wouldn't get past the lady in charge of the school office Alan.  I'm fairly sure she keeps a broom under the desk 😉

I use cheques for many things....mainly to annoy the banks, who would no doubt like to automate further to lay off more staff. Further I mistrust online things due to hackers....after all, apparently you were hacked recently.

Old skool values when it comes to money.

Work to earn it, don't spend it if you haven't got it and avoid debt.

It will go through the books if they put it through the books... The bank statement is just a double check!
