I remain convinced that Salmond is pretty sure that it won't happen but by pushing this referendum he will achieve some sort of William Wallace legacy as a great patriot who tried. |

Once upon a time, there used to be quite a lot of Tories in Jockoland, then Thatcher imposed the Poll Tax on them, and their natural instincts as people took them somewhere else, so that now there is 1 Tory MP north of the border, so they feel disenfranchised. This has also happened in a lot of other communities which had the heart ripped out of them in England and Wales, but it is more difficult for them to make their voice heard....the Sweaties have a good case for a model which might be progressive...tempting, but also possibly riddled with danger, given some of the traditional sectarianism, and hardcore nationalism on offer.
It's worked both ways over the years though, how much has gone through parliament which only effects England but has been secured by the Scottish MP votes? |

A few of my friends are voting yes and are very vocal about it on Twitter/Facebook etc. Their main thinking is that they are fed up of decision being made by Westminster. Specifically the tories, who Scotland have never voted for, get to run them.
At least that's what I think they are saying, I haven't really been paying that much attention.
My wife is one of the 800,000 Scots living in England, Wales & NI who will not get a vote on this - and she's said on more than one occasion recently that she's delighted she's out of the country for the time being because the debate up there is all consuming at the moment. You can avoid it down here if you want to...but not up there. It's not a nice atmosphere, from what I've seen. A lot of bitterness and vitriol. The sad fact is that whatever the outcome, resentment on the losing side will be deep and it's going to be a divided place for some time to come. Sad really. |

Being stuck on the A34 northbound as two Wincanton transport lorries with identical shipping containers on the race each other neck and neck for miles with one going 1/4 mile an hour faster. Bastards should be banned from doing that.
