I'm loving the way the YES campaign is putting the frighteners up the Establishment. We may well have a situation soon whereby Scots Nats, are in the EU with the Euro, some Ulstermen will want to go with the Scots, whilst others with the ROI, LittleEnglanders will opt for withdrawing from the EU and keeping the pound, and fuck knows what the Welsh will do. |

Spot on. I have lots of friends and family North of the border and every one "thinks" they will be better off. How the hell they can even think that they can keep the pound with us underpinning the finances of the country is beyond me. Scotland has the worst health in the western world with the highest rates of cancer and heart disease and drug addiction yet they still get free NHS prescriptions and dentistry etc.....who is going to pay for that? cos it will no longer be us, so we as a country will be instantly £43 billion better off. Public spending in England averages £6500 per head of population. In Scotland it is around £9600. Yes they have north sea oil and gas but even if they take all the money from that it will still only come to around £34 billion per year leaving a deficit of about £9 billion per year. Let them go I say and no you can't have the pound....take on the Euro or make you own new currency with all the risks that come with that because you can't have your cake and eat it and expect us to keep paying for it. |

A few of my friends are voting yes and are very vocal about it on Twitter/Facebook etc. Their main thinking is that they are fed up of decision being made by Westminster. Specifically the tories, who Scotland have never voted for, get to run them.
At least that's what I think they are saying, I haven't really been paying that much attention.

Once upon a time, there used to be quite a lot of Tories in Jockoland, then Thatcher imposed the Poll Tax on them, and their natural instincts as people took them somewhere else, so that now there is 1 Tory MP north of the border, so they feel disenfranchised. This has also happened in a lot of other communities which had the heart ripped out of them in England and Wales, but it is more difficult for them to make their voice heard....the Sweaties have a good case for a model which might be progressive...tempting, but also possibly riddled with danger, given some of the traditional sectarianism, and hardcore nationalism on offer. |

I have this comical image in my mind about the Scottish yes vote, if they vote yes.
I can imagine them celebrating their independence and having a good old time. Once the celebrations die down and they have time to think they're going to have a facepalm moment once they realise what they've done.
I liken it to the fish in the tank from finding Nemo escaping to the ocean in their plastic bags and then realising that they hadn't thought their plan through thoroughly enough.

Not surprising I guess - the option of remaining in the Union is way ahead in the polls and there's the inherent "status quo" problem of an inbuilt 20-30% advantage which affects all referendums. |

It has seemed like the yes vote is gaining momentum but those in favour of change are normally more vocal than happy to stay the same.
Highly unlikely the yes vote wins IMO
