I don't even think its an unfortunate choice of phrasing. I wonder if Lenny Henry will pipe up.
I just think a lot of people now would avoid describing a black guy as a monkey, regardless of context, because it's possible for it to be misconstrued. That's all really.

I kind of see both sides, but the thing I found most "amusing" about it, is FARE getting involved. They were the twats who piped up when England fans sung those "racist" songs about Rio and his shitcunt brother. Chain coffee shops. I drink black coffee. This is a thing. It exists. Don't force me to ask for an Americano. And really, don't ask me if I want milk in my black coffee.
I'm with you there. Not only do they ask if I want milk in my black Americano, but they nearly always query (often several times if it's not my regular) the way I like my coffee - small black americano with 2 extra shots.

Which ironically is sort of racist in itself. If you are having to choose your words carefully around a certain audience then you are treating that audience differently based on who they are; ie racism.

Yep and it was a reference to the NASA joke about an actual monkey. Absolutely no racist intent to either what Hodgson said or the source. If you're in the company of people you know well then that is especially okay, even with the stigma attached to the word monkey.

I see that Stan Collymore has commented that he can't see any issue with what Roy said.
In fact, his comments suggested that anyone who is raising this in that way will damage the anti-racist campaign by making it look "over-PC and petty".

And he's quite right. But, and forgive me if I'm wrong because I've not followed it that closely, but I didn't think this was "being raised in that way" so much as it was a disaffected voice in the dressing room supplying tattle to the papers who then chose to present it as a race issue, to loud snorts of derision from all concerned. Isn't this just the redtops trying to shit-stir and making themselves look like arseholes?

Redtop arseholes again already? Paul Dacre really is a haemorrhoid in the rectum of British society.

Can't believe Spring Gardens was closed at 8.30 pm last night, locking in 30 cars of people at the game (including me)... In the end, after threatening us with £60 per car for release they avoided a riot and let us out for free. Very annoyed for three reasons: (1) always parked there for 20 years (2) apparently it was open for the Chelsea game (3) on the Council Parking website it lists Spring Gardens as an alternative for parking on matchdays.
No idea why it needs to be locked up at night anyway. Idiots.
