I heard a BBC late night TV News Reader says axs instead of ask a while back :O
Believe it or not, that is (arguably) the correct pronunciation! http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Metathesis_(linguistics)#EnglishMetathesis is responsible for some common speech errors, such as children acquiring spaghetti as pasketti. The pronunciation /ˈęsk/ for ask, now considered standard, descends from a northern version of the verb that in most midland and southern texts through the 1500s was spelled with "x" or "cs", showing pronunciation as /ˈęks/. Chaucer, Caxton, and the Coverdale Bible use "ax"; Shakespeare and the King James Bible have "ask".

I thought that too! I have never heard of half the people on the last few pages however.

I stopped listening to Radio 1 around the time Chris Evans left. But then I am old.

I listen to radio 1 in my van because its either that, Steve Wright (he's the uber-cunt), Richard Bacon on Radio 5live (he's a cunt too, and really annoys me by repeating what he thinks is the important part of a sentence twice. really fucks me off), or radio with adverts which I despise. As soon as 5pm rolls around its on to Radio 2 for Simon Mayo, although Greg James isn't too awful.

Peter Allen and Simon Mayo should just broadcast 24 hours a day on all stations. Steve Wright can do Sunday Love Songs to give them a break.

I quite like Mayo and Kermode doing the films, however the guy who stands in occassionally (is it Nigel Floyd) just spends two hours desparately trying to show how much more he knows about film than you do.

Seems to be Zoe Ball and James King as stand ins now. Always depressing when they are not doing it.

My boss keeps telling me he as 'pacific' things for me to do...
A work colleague of mine uses the expression "by enlarge" - when generalising about something.. I was never quite sure that I wasn't mis-hearing it until I saw it in email..

At least they have somekind of engagement, Floyd just whines about anything mainstream and references stuff he thinks will make him appear intelligent.

Paul Sturrock twice came out with this one: "Football swings in roundabouts sometimes" "We got a win against Tranmere when perhaps a draw was the right result, so it swings in roundabouts." It's and Paul, not in. "Swings and roundabouts". How can you manage Swindon and not know your roundabout idioms?
