Good luck, not that saying that helps. Thanks Batch. You have my sympathy - that is pretty much the situation I was in a couple of years ago. I went down the route of starting my own business, but I am now looking for work again. Things are shit out there at the moment, hang in if you can.
I was originally swaying towards redundancy as I'd get a decent payout, which would clear credit cards, car loan and still leave me with some over while I looked for something else. The risk is not finding something else though, which is highly likely in this climate. I'm also limited by my background being quite specific. If i was prepared to travel to Bristol, I'd probably be okay, but it's not feasible while the kids are still young. It could be a long few months

Found out today I didn't get the job that is replacing my current job. I've now got to wait a week to see if I get offered a suitable alternative and if not I'll be given notice. My notice period is 10 weeks and I could still be offered a suitable alternative up to the last day of my notice. Basically I'm in limbo for nearly 3 months not knowing whether I'm going to get redundancy or not.
That is pants. Hope it sorts out good for you..

Are you keeping the T-shirt business as a sideline, or are the margins too small? Good luck to you both.
Depends on what work I can find - some of the stuff I have applied for is part-time so I would keep the shirts going on a smaller scale. Up to May it was doing fine, but the wet summer/Jubolympics have made trading conditions very hard indeed. Have had a couple of inteviews, but am massively overqualified for the stuff I am applying for, and as such am struggling to persuade people that I am happy to work for peanuts. I am lucky in that my wife landed a good job at the time I lost mine, so I don't have to earn the money/work the hours that I used to.

Thats a bummer. I've not known nationwide to enforce the notice period very often. Its normally the best part of 3 months gardening leave as unfortunately redeployment opportunities are scarce. Is there any chance of a lesser job with preserved rights / benefits for 12 months?

What do you do Joteddy?
PMO (Project Management Office), but specifically in Financial Services. As I currently work for Nationwide, it only really leaves Zurich as a big company in Swindon, but they're also making mass redundancies. To be honest, I fancy a complete change in career, as I'm sick of the stressful project environment. However, starting something from the bottom would mean a big pay drop, which we can't really afford. I might not have a choice though. Thats a bummer. According to the info we've all had from HR, it all changed last year and they don't let anyone take gardening leave anymore unless in extreme circumstances. The preserved rights/benefits for a downgrade is all different now as well. I think I'd only get a couple of months on my current salary before it dropped to the new target salary. I should know more after my individual meeting with HR next week.

Getting a phone call this morning telling me that the company where I store my companies materials is going into receivership and will be locked up by Thursday resulting in me missing tonight 'cos I will be trying to squeeze 5 pallets of goods in my already full garage.

Ah come on, I think we've all tried a sneaky upskirt shot of a 12 year old before.
