I've always figured everyone paying NI aren't actually funding their own pensions, they're really paying the current bunch of retirees pensions who in turn paid for the previous generation etc.
I reckon the pension pot has never been big enough to fund each generation directly.
The very definition of a gigantic Ponzi scheme

No recent government has had the balls to scrap the triple lock because they (typically the Tories) rely on the grey vote. So the next best option is to increase the state pension age again.

Whereas Labour don’t give a shit about pensioners at all. Let’s freeze the old fuckers to death. Obviously Covid didn’t kill enough of us off. We’ve already got one of the lowest state pensions in Europe.

System in a nutshell, ours will be funded by the taxpayers of the 2040's.

The only thing that hasn't really been discussed, but is the most sensible solution, is going back to a means tested system and keep it solely for those who need it.

Fuck me after all the fuss about means testing the WFO no government will go near it ever I suspect?

Might as well go the whole hog and disband the NHS. Every man, woman or other for themselves!

Apologies for posting something trivial, rather than something existential, in this thread, but FFS:

https://www.theguardian.com/sport/2025/feb/13/bbc-snubs-keely-hodgkinsons-world-record-tilt-for-re-run-of-flog-it

tl;dr: BBC has the rights to show its own Sports Personality of the Year attempt to break the 800m world record, but is putting it on iPlayer rather than proper telly and instead showing... a repeat of Flog It.

Like, what possible logic is there to that.

The BBC has got worse over time. The standard of programming is shite. Someone actually thinks Mrs Browns Boys is funny and worth the money. The tv license is prehistoric, just have bloody adverts and bin it off.

I see Labour were looking at making it compulsory to have one even if you just watch services like Netflix and Prime and dont watch live tv. Good luck with that one!

W1A and 2012 before that were absolute genius and I suspect, portrayed a pretty accurate image of the BBC. I suppose you have to say fair play to the BBC for allowing it to be made and put out...I can't remember how many series they made - maybe 2 of each?... some of my favourite TV ever...superb cast as well.

And just like that, she’s pulled out of the record attempt anyway.  Doh

To be fair that generation paid for the education of the ones now paying for their pensions
