The Honours List is a fucking farce ( for arselickers and those who have already been well rewarded ) that should be abolished, like the monarchy. At least David Bowie and John Cleese had the decency to turn down the honours.

Winning Olympic gold and winning the tour de france is hardly a 'willy-nilly' achievement'.
No but that's his job Rather them receive them than any politician/politician's wife (Cherie Blair)
But hers was given for all her charitable work

I know you are all big Rita Ora fans . It's bugging me, there is a music/chanting bit in the middle of her RIP song that I have heard before but I can't think where. I think you'll find it's from this:

No but what are they going to do if he retains his TDF ? I don't think they should be given out for sporting achievement..... only for charity work or services to the community etc.

It's also not just his achievement though, he was reliant upon millions in public funding, a large support team and his team mates who sacrificed themselves so he could win and it is something he gets paid a seven figure annual salary for. I don't have a problem with sports people getting these awards but they need to do something out of the ordinary, which means a lot more than just doing their job. Something like charity work, setting up a foundation, or anything out of the ordinary. What about all the unpaid (or lowly paid) sports coaches that give up their spare time to train young kids? They are a lot more deserving than those that actually get the awards. Thought it shocking that a couple who have been foster parents for over 40 years, helping hundreds of kids in the process, are only deemed worthy of MBE's. Seems wrong that we value someone riding a bike over that.

You're obviously not familiar with the Bradley Wiggins Foundation then? I understand your point about the foster parents, but thinking that Wiggins' achievement isn't extraordinary is just wrong.

I will admit he's built himself a nice little empire and Trophy Cabinet at Man U. However, he is most categorically a twat, who gets away with blue murder on a regular basis. For some unknown reason, the man 'is' the Premier League, and therefore every commentator, referee, and official associated with the game has this worshipful nature towards him and his opinions. I'd like to see another manager refuse to speak to the BBC for how many years and keep his job. I'd like to see another manager try and get away with the blatant and vicious lies and misdirection he gets away with. He's the one who's dragged top-level football into the mire where players shout at the referee whenever they don't agree with him. He's the one who's made it so every single time someone shoots inside the box from less than a yard at a defenders hand placed across his body to protect his 'nads or face, it's a penalty. His moaning has changed the way referees do their job more than anyone else in my opinion. He also hates international football, and is therefore a miserable old jock cunt, jealous of the fact his country's a footballing shithole. Also FUCKING CHEWING GUM ALL THE TIME LIKE A BLOODY HEIFER. His call for Ashley Williams to be banned for an accident that happens up and down the country all the time smacks of hipocrisy too, seeing as how long Roy Keane played under him and tried to kill people on a regular basis.
He hasn't done ANYTHING for football. He's used Football to get stuff for himself.
I think Liverpool being put in their place has less and less to do with Man U and more and more to do with players who are there for the paycheck, as opposed to love for the team and the city (Stevie G excepted, but he's getting towards the end of his life now), and a succession of managers who expect too much. Brendan Rodgers is changing the second, but the first will take a while.
And apart from that, he's a twat

Only finding out FIFA 13 has an age restriction of 13 for online content AFTER my son had redeemed his "bonus code" for his ultimate team via PSN which gave him no warning he wouldn't be able to use it when redeeming.
There is very tiny writing on the back of the box, but the extra money my mum spent on the "bonus edition" now seems wasted.

You're right I'm not familiar with it, but then that's probably because he only set it up about 6 months ago - so I doubt he's achieved anything with it that is worthy of a knighthood. Whilst he is arguably the best road cyclist in the world there are plenty of others (albeit not British) that have achieved a lot more in the sport than he has, so I don't think he's done anything extraordinary. Spending 40 years fostering kids is extraordinary, as is the work of many other people who don't get acknowledged.

The Honours System is just a way to keep the plebs kissing the ringpieces of the monarchy and making them greatful for doing it
