I don't think that anyone is yet panicking,it's just that we're becoming a bit concerned.
The club may have to lower their sights and also look at the loan market, which incidentally
i see that Leeds are also thinking of doing.

I think we are in the same situation as a lot of clubs.  We all know we have areas of the squad that need strengthening, but there are only so many players available.  The board and manager have obviously agreed that we will only sign players who:

a) we can afford; and
b) are an improvement on the players we already have.

There is just not a huge resource of available players out there who meet that criteria.  Throw in the competition from tens of other clubs in similar situations and its not really suprising that we've not signed loads of players.  We've brought three in so far, and we probably will get another couple in by the start of the season.  Let's be patient, I think we are in for a long-term rebuilding process rather than a one season quick fix.

I think in the present day game...it more or less has always to be the quick fix. By which I mean, firstly if you get a decent player, then as with Cox you have to sell them and secondly you can only afford to tie up a select few players on longish contracts and they clog up the system if you want rid of them further down the line...eg Aljofree, McGovern, Peacock.

League position will dictate, as it did last season, that the panic button is pressed, the manager is sacked, and some loans are brought in to paper over the cracks.

The acquisition of Douglas, is definitely more like it...another 2 or 3 especially up front, and things will start to look altogether rosier.

Seems to be an accurate, if slightly depressing model for lower division football these days, which is presumably why we have chosen the youth development version. I'd say you had to be a consitent mid table or above championship outfit before a change in this philosophy could be considered.

After delivering Douglas I think most can now accept this is nothing like last summer when Malpas delivered Nalis, Marshall and Casal where as Wilson has delivered Lucas, Greer and Douglas.  We get 2 quality strikers and a good full back and we will challenge at the right end of the table this season.

Wilson has delivered Lucas, Greer and Douglas.

Not forgetting our other Irish international Alan OBrien!

I'd be happy to move timlin to left back and have douglas and easton in centre mid aslong as eason shows the quality he had when he started at town, and then one of the yoofs as backup.

still agree we need 1 or 2 strikers and a fullback

With no-one else coming in, we can still field a have decent side that could in my opinion finish mid table.

......................Lucas
Amankwaah..Greer..Morrison..Timlin/Aljofree
O'Brien..Douglas..Easton/Timlin..McNamee
.................Paynter..Peacock

That's not including Ifil, McGovern and Phil Smith who could all do a job.

I expect they'll be a few more in, so things are looking good I think.

McGovern would be in my team ahead of McNamee, purely on his all round game being better and the fact he can defend and help his full back. We will not score goals with that front pairing, think how much Peacock struggled in league two when upfront, but lets wait and see who comes in, is it too much to ask for another signing today?

We need a couple of full backs, one left sided and heopefully one that can play either side (still think we could have kept smith) as neither Timlin nor Aljofree is a full back, and i reckon Aljofree and Greer will be the regualr partnership when they are both fit.

Towards the end of the season Macca's tracking back was superb and i even saw him win a header.I think i am right in saying that he was our highest assist player last year.

The highest assist stat is true, but then the year we let Zaaboub go he created a very similar number of goals and was top of the list and the fans didn't like him as much as they do McNamee. I just think he is over rated on the basis of some step overs, and that he general poor defensive play, his physical weakness and lack of stamina makes him a luxury, unless we can get a rock solid left back in who doesn't need the defensive help.

Macca plays well from August-October, and from March onwards, we should stick him in storage for the winter.
