It's sad to see we're losing a decent defender to a small club who are spending more on wages than us.

Still really concerned on our ownership and who is pulling the strings at the top.

Massive Billionaire US owners.
Invested in a decent Management Team as well.
Incredible with a crowd of 2,200. Only time will tell, not sustainable though.

Very few clubs sustainably move up the leagues without serious backing (Bournemouth/Wigan etc etc)

The key, and the bit STFC fuck every time, is to capitalise on brief periods of success. As was said recently here, if Black had sold to a proper owner, instead of cutting and running, who knows where we could be.

Sustainable growth is largely a myth, unless you are able to massively increase income via attendances etc, which is tough,a nd tougher now than it was when Reading built the new stadium etc.

Spot on.
What is depressing though is most clubs get a bad owner for a few years and get out of it.
Blackpool being a prime example.
Black sold us to the devil and we have never recovered.

Equally the potential at Swindon is excellent, the crowds last season proved that.
If only we had owners that were straight and had the sole interest of the club at heart. We don’t.

The only way to do it is to get to the PL, and then yo-yo with parachute payments.

Look how long it took Leeds to get back without them.
It’s now happening to Sunderland & Sheffield Wednesday.

Alternatively get an owner who’s happy to throw money at it, but even that isn’t a guarantee, ask Steve Lansdown.

Completely agree with this.

The only real way of this 'Moneyball' model working out (at our level) is if we have an impeccable transfer record together with excellent coaching/management to get the absolute maximum from the players at our disposal and to get promotion quickly with that said group of players. Otherwise the only other way is to spend your way out of it.

From what Di Michele was saying on Twitter the other evening, if a player is bought and plays well we will end up selling so essentially you're rebuilding every summer (not unlike now), sustainable growth in the lower leagues doesn't exist unless you put every penny of that profit back into the budget and go for better players on better wages. Otherwise you end becoming a development club with dwindling attendances.

I’d go one step further and say sustainable is a complete myth unless the club is owned by fans or an owner who plans on owning the club for life in. In our situation ‘sustainability’ only benefits one group, the owners of the club. The fans and windfalls are now being used to pay off the historic debts, thus the owner is increasing the value of his investment and decreasing his liabilities without any associated capital outlay. Other than continuing to exist there is no real benefit to supporters in our ‘new’ strategy and no benefit in having an ‘owner’.

The Peterborough model is probably one more relevant to us. They invest in young talent from non league, often strikers, to sell on at a profit. They have yo yo'd between League One and the Championship which is top of our aspirations.

As mentioned we blow it by missing out in play offs and getting relegated from League One every few years. The last 3 relegations haven't been down to the financial meltdowns but more bad decisions on players and managers.

Problem is their owner pumped in a fair wedge at the start to get them into that position, evidence suggests that isn’t going to happen here.

I would take two average seasons in League One right now.
Just can’t get excited about this forthcoming season. League Two is depressing.

10000%.

Being blunt- when the regime start talking about sustainability - it really means ‘milk the club as much as we can whilst spending as little as we can’. That 10k attendance money, two seasons worth of solid shirt sales, twine sell on fee. Owners be loving life.

Oh- and before people carry on with the debt bullshit- clem got this club for a couple hundred grand, of course he’s gonna take debt on. The EFL loan is interest free in all…. No excuses this season. 4 weeks to go but I’m yet to see anything to suggest we are being backed properly.

Unless Clem et al are going to inject equity into the club, unfortunately I don’t see any benefit to his ownership now to be honest. The owners get all the benefit whilst we as fans are just the cash cows paying for it.

Mr Power did warn us that Clem Morfuni didn't have the funds available to fund STFC.

Nobody gave a shit at the time, because we were so desperate to be rid of him.

Evidence suggests he may well have been correct.
