On the doors too if you look at that pic again.

I've got a 1975 Earls Court Motor Show review catalogue and the majority of the cars have door mirrors rather than wing mirrors (and quite a few without either!)

Wing mirrors were more 60's I would say?

Both of my grandpas had Austin Maxis.  Nothing epitomises the late 1970s to me more than the shape/look of that car.[/img]

You could buy a new Austin Maxi Highline for £1,806 in 1975.

Quote
Maxis come with engines of 1500 or 1750cc but the Highline has the big engine with twin carburetters and other features like brushed nylon upholstery, heated rear window and sports wheel trims. High compression pistons, twin carburetters, revised camshaft and new manifolds increase the power. Body side strips with coloured inserts, larger tyres, electric screen washers are included in the specification

91bhp, 100mph, 25-29 mpg

Sex on wheels, eh?

Oh my life. Front drum brakes as standard, discs optional  Eek

Mind you the 1.8 TC (twin carb) was a big of a street sleeper, had really low insurance for the performance. I think that one came with discs  Hmmm

Mistakenly opened this thread expecting to see that someone famous had died and seem to have stumbled into a meeting of Jeremy Clarkson types.     Hmmm

TEF discussion going off on a tangent?!  Never.

Funnily enough, it started with discussion of an Italian designer...who isn't actually dead yet.

My granddad was a Cortina man.

When I was growing up I was big into my cars, only know do I realise how poor they were. Austin ambassador and Princess were the earliest ones I remember.

Jules Bianchi.

Suppose not really that unexpected as been in coma since October.  Wonder if the cause of his crash will ever be know or revealed, it was a bit odd.

From memory it was a wet race, Adrian Sutil (i think) had already crashed a recovery crane was removing Sutils car, the following lap Bianchi spun out at the same point and collided with said crane.

I think the odd thing was that he didn't spin out he literally drove into the crane at regular speed, well not regular speed as I think it was under safety car at the time.

The report into the accident concluded that he didn't observe the double yellows at the time and didn't slow down "sufficiently".
