Best quote ever. "he would, wouldn't he"
I would imagine young Reg in his pomp at that time. England was still a sclerotic, deferential society. Mandy Rice Davies' comment above, in response to a QC pointing out to her that Lord Astor, peer of the realm, had denied having even met MRD let alone had an affair with her, was as pithy and cynical a retort as possible. It helped set the tone for the swinging sixties

A little off topic: I was on holiday on the Greek island Lindos in the late 70's, and got chatting in a bar with a semi-well known jazz singer (I do remember her name but won't mention it). Lovely girl. She was there with, amongst others, her then boyfriend Reginald Bosenquet. A few months later the singer was in court on a soliciting charge. On being quizzed about their alleged friendship a spokesperson of RB said he had "no knowledge of this person"

Certainly opened my eyes....but in many ways little has changed, Harold MacMillan was PM, an Old Etonian toff, in charge of a corrupt government....now Cameron, an Old Etonian toff, in charge of a corrupt government. MacMillan did at least pay lip service to "One Nation" conservatism, having done his time on the front at the Somme.

Elly May Clampett (actress Donna Douglas) has passed away.
She was cute - was shocked to see she was 81.

Listening to The Last Word on Radio 4 earlier they were talking about the death of Graeme Goodall (ska producer and co-founder of Island Records) in mid December, which had completely passed me by
