A little off topic: I was on holiday on the Greek island Lindos in the late 70's, and got chatting in a bar with a semi-well known jazz singer (I do remember her name but won't mention it). Lovely girl. She was there with, amongst others, her then boyfriend Reginald Bosenquet. A few months later the singer was in court on a soliciting charge. On being quizzed about their alleged friendship a spokesperson of RB said he had "no knowledge of this person" |

Certainly opened my eyes....but in many ways little has changed, Harold MacMillan was PM, an Old Etonian toff, in charge of a corrupt government....now Cameron, an Old Etonian toff, in charge of a corrupt government. MacMillan did at least pay lip service to "One Nation" conservatism, having done his time on the front at the Somme. |
