Nah, definitely can't. I enquired with the DVLA when we arranged our minibus to Orient. You have to be doing it for a non-commercial body i.e. a charity.
That's a real bitch, isn't it? So if you ever wanted to drive a minibus for (e.g) your mates you would have to do a PCV test and get a medical. I can see why they have put this legislation in place (i.e. you can kill a load of people in one go), but what is the difference between that and driving it for a charity or a school where you don't need the extra PCV/D1 entitlement? Bullshit. Oh and because our Yeovil minibus is quite new, it is speed limited to 60mph

If Sam drove the minibus and split the cost with us, wouldn't that be for hire or reward? You may be allowed to drive a minibus without bus entitlement, if it is not used for hire or reward. Hire or reward generally means any payment in cash or kind made by or on behalf of passengers which gives them right to be carried in a vehicle. Saying that, I have no idea how they'd prove anything, but the police always presume guilt until proven innocent with driving offences.

The UK based Transport Office have provided the following definition;
“Hire or reward is any sort of payment which gives a person a right to be carried on a vehicle regardless of whether a profit is made or not. The payment may be made by the person himself, or on his behalf and may be a direct payment (such as a fare or other payment made directly in respect of the journey) or an indirect payment (such as a membership subscription to a club, payment for a bed in a hotel, school fees or payment for concert tickets). Although such indirect payments are usually made in respect of other services (rather than for transport) they are nonetheless viewed by the courts as hire or reward because anyone who had not made the payment would have no right to be carried.” Anyway, I'm up for the cheaper option, which would not be a minibus

Easy then. We are not 'persons', we are human beings (and there is a big distinction).

I'm not sure It'd really hold up in a court of law. I think the rules are daft.

Who knows with those two, I have no contact details. Mike will be chasing them up via Dom, if you see them again please pass on my details. We have 15 (with DV still to pay ), MLT, John and Hilts have promised money this week. Peter W also mentioned a mate? Do you know anything about that? Finally, anyone else who has £85 spare and fancies a tournement in July, let me know. Ta.
