Nixon - Swindon close to Wesley deal

We dont need him. His obsession with attacking players annoya me a bit

Sticking Clarke at CB was the wrong decision also

We need someone who can take on defenders and get past them.

Westley is similar to Tabor from the little we have seen thus far.

A Bobby Barnes, George Ndah, Mark Walters or Harry McKirdy type player is what's required.

Another centre half so we can move Clarke back into midfield would be my priority - though why don't we just use Mino....?

Delaney would be the more obvious choice with his experience.

I would like us to sign

a. an option at RB

b. a creative midfielder

c. a fast wide striker/winger

d. maybe another option at CB if (the unfancied by Holloway) Delaney leaves

We defnately have a distinct lack of midfielders as shown by the bench yesterday.

Just thinking earlier, when we’ve done well in this league we’ve always had 3 or 4 players in the team that were clearly above L2 in terms of quality.

In the current squad I can’t think of anyone that would cut it in L1, there’s not even anyone that’s really played above L2 in their entire careers. There’s no shortage of endeavour but there does seem a lack of genuine quality in the squad, so you can see why outsiders aren’t convinced we will challenge at the top end. We just feel like an average L2 team when you look at the squad on paper.

It’s not even necessarily having L1 quality but having a player or two who aren’t afraid to TRY & create something as opposed to players who are continually so shit scared of losing the ball that they won’t pass it forwards or over 5 yards.

You’d never say Harry McKirdy was L1 quality but that first season here - particularly towards the end he was unplayable but that was partly because he just wanted to get the ball & play like a school kid - try & run past player after player and score goals.

It worked well. Reed would pass it sideways. Payne would drop deep to get it. Drive forward. Find McKirdy who’d run at the defence & either score or create for Davison or Barry.

Before then we’ve had players like Matt Ritchie or Mark Walters. Hell, even a John-Paul McGovern would be the most exciting player in this squad

Under Wellens we had Anderson, Doyle, Doughty, Isgrove. Players with genuine quality, played consistently above this level and weren’t even aging veterans. Like you say they also weren’t scared to try and create something.

We just don’t have any players like those we’ve mentioned, we are just a team of L2 plodders. Hopefully Bodin adds something but it’s a big ask putting it on someone of his age for the full season.

Under Wellens (and Power) we had a league 1 budget in L2.

Thats a major difference.

But even under Garner with a much smaller budget we still had a few players that were genuinely exciting and a couple that could play above this level. I just don’t see that in this squad.

I think the quality of league 2 has dropped since the Wellens & Garner era.

I would like us to sign
...

I have a feeling the squad is pretty much done.

I don't if any outs will be replaced, or whenever it'll just be squad size reduction
