Can I point out the fucking obvious on wage bills again.

Anything that ANYONE says on the subject is at best informed guesswork.

Sandro and Holloway have more information than the online bollocks talkers about ONE of the TWENTY FOUR clubs in the league. Then other 23 have pretty good reasons to play their cards close to their chest about the money they have available and are REALLY unlikely to honestly discuss it with the competition.

The idea that either of them know, or knew, the playing budgets of other clubs we're in competition with is ridiculous. They're going on rumour and guesswork same as everybody else

No sensible person can possibly argue with any of that.

In addition, if you look at the players we've signed in the last 12 months or so...we could never have signed any of the following (or certainly not all of them) if our budget was as low as some are suggesting. These were all established first team players...

Harry Smith
Will Wright
Ryan Delaney
James Ball
Olly Clarke
Darren Oldaker
Billy Bodin
Connor Ripley

It's clearly not the biggest budget but it's surely competitive....

Well there you go, further evidence. The reason that I listed those particular players and not Kilkenny is that I would consider them all to be established first team players and some had even been Club Captain in certain cases, whereas someone made the point further back in the thread that the players we signed had been, on the whole fringe players which is clearly not true.

...and we must have really pulled out the stops to get Ripley. With him being northern based and major family commitments up that way, I was sure we would lose him at the end of last season...

I know Ollie does a great sales pitch but the money has to be there as well...

None of us know, but it's pretty clear we don't have one of the biggest budgets in the league (Sam M mentioned that MK's is 2.5x ours, but an enormous outlier in the division) nor one of the smallest. Beyond that I'm not really sure what the argument is here.

Let's remember this is L2, if MK are potentially the biggest at £4m, the difference between wage bills in the middle of the pack is £100k/£200k?! enough for one extra quality player or 2 squad fillers. We aren't talking millions in difference like in the Championship or the £250k/£500k gaps in L1.

I could well imagine there are 10 teams in L2 whose budget is separated by a very small amount.

I think the argument is that some people believe (based on not very much) that we have a 'bottom third' budget in the division...in reality as you say, it's not the biggest but by no means one of the smallest...that's it really.

And that's where the Holloway factor comes in. I can see this being the 'tie breaker' in certain cases where clubs are offering similar deals. Players seem to want to play for him and I can see why...

I don't think anyone is saying it's a bottom third budget now are they? That quote relates to Clem's second season (the Sandro/Lindsay season) where frankly, the squad looked a whole lot more bottom third than this one does.

This squad as it stands for me is probably the 2nd best that we've had under Morfuni

1st the Garner team, 2nd this one, 3rd Sandro and 4th last year's team - the reason for last year's team being the worst was the quality but also the fact that we literally could only play 5-3-2, which quickly became apparent that it was crap

The Garner team was a great first XI but a dreadful *squad*, we basically used 14 players all year.

There were perfectly reasonable reasons for that, but it does stand saying.

I was saying to someone the other day, modern football is squad based now not first XI.
when you can swap out half your outfield players during a game, you cannot afford a huge drop in quality.

This.

When your bench options are Mitchell-Lawson, Harry Parsons and Ryan East you're limited to what you can do.

Still think if we had given Josh Davison some help in the second half of the season things could've turned out different. Absolutely ran him into the ground.

It was also a miracle the medical team managed to keep Gladwin and Williams as fit as they did, else we'd of been in big trouble.
